No live version could/has ever come close to the terrifying menace and doom of the Let it Bleed studio version. Sure, they can, and have, sounded ok, particularly the version on Brussels, but even the great live ones pale and stand in the shadow of that studio cut.

I'm not one to make contrary comments to draw others into debate. Olly...."hardly the most lamentable..."...but "I'm not the one to make contrary comments..." Maybe n

Staggering how far they'd come from Aftermath and Between the Buttons to Beggars and Bleed. Let it Bleed opens with, to this day, the greatest ever opening track to an album. Shelter. Foreboding, dark, primal, piercing. The greatest EVER Charlie Watts drum captured on tape, just pure magnificence. A hugely diverse album that should not be, but totally IS, unimaginably cohesive. My

QuoteJumpinJeppeFlash Quotebuenosairesstones Cristiano thanks, Jumpin problem I think is not a spectator jump , sing or pull a flag. its problems are Argentines. I am very Stones fans from quite some time and this blog to inform and learn more about them. But I feel we really offended. I retire bye Sergio Sergio! It has never been my intention to offend you or any of your fellow countrym

QuoteSwayed1967 One of the two Stones songs ever praised by my ex-wife. (The other was Start Me Up which she first heard on the Apple commercial. SO ... Start me Up was in a Microsoft commercial for Windows 95 (or 98?) launch, AND an APPLE commercial??? When was the latter? The Stones hedging their bets both ways?

Quoteroller99 Quotekeefriffhards Quotedrbryant Quotenightskyman Quotedrbryant QuoteMrThompsonWooft Quotedrbryant Really, in my experience stones fans are busy talking about the latest shows or how to get tickets, etc. and it's the Beatles fans who suddenly appear with silly posts like "the Beatles were a great blues band". Contemplating a Beatles set list in 2015 is a bit like deb

Quotekeefriffhards Quotebitusa2012 Still Life by.. you know. NO WAY !!!! its the atmosphere, when they belt out under my thumb and lets spend the night together, its unbelievable, the audience in the recording makes that one tops with me., I find it just too rushed, thin in sound and wheezy. Just dreadful album. It's only redeeming song is Going to a Gogo, and THAT'S ordinary!

I remember 6PR, the local Rock station in Perth had a thing called the Power Play, otherwise known as the PerHour Play... Said as the P'hour Play. Every hour for the day on a weekend they would play the same song. Normally, the ONE song. But the weekend Jumping Jack Flash was released and played on their p'hour play... they rotated JJF and Child of the Moon. I was in heaven. O

Quoteandrewt QuoteWitness However, the Four Tops' version of the Monkees' hit "Last Train to Clarksville" appears to me as an ideal case of the definition of 'filler'. Can we agree that the Stones version of the Temptations hit "My Girl" is filler? No, it's a cover, not a filler. And a good one.

I received my first copy of Exile as vinyl of course, as a gift bought back from the UK to Perth about 2 months after its release. But about 2 weeks before its release in Australia! I went to my parents friends house (they bought it back for me) and before going home, gave it a spin on their really nice Pye (!) Stereogram. I had not read any reviews. This is after living with Sticky Fing

Sweet Neocon has a good title, but there's no evidence that anyone in the band cared one damn bit about this song. BASED ON WHAT, do the band STOP playing on this? Take a break? Have a cup of tea, midstream? Mick forget his words? Don't get this comment. Surely if the band cares not a whit about this, it would not be on the record. Sure, YOU can say YOU don't like it, but

Shimmering brilliance. I well remember in Perth, this seemed to hold onto the number one position on the singles charts for what seemed forever. Just nonchalant execution of a superbly crafted moody single. Love it.

These sorts of questions always amuse me. Acknowledging this is a discussion forum, to post THIS sort of question implies to me that we know better. I don't know, they seem to be going better than all of us in the field of rock artists.

Stone cold classic. Sounds fantastic. Beautifully understated playing, in the main, brutally honest music and lyrically their peak. Not one dud, great production, stunning songs and continuity, and StrayCat Blues and Salt of the Earth remain pinnacles of perfection to me. Throw in Sympathy... No other band was coming close at this stage.

QuoteBrstonesfan Well, I consider myself a Stones purist and chose not to listen to other classic rock bands, especially ones like Beatles, LZ, Floyd, Eagles, who many constantly say are so much better than the Stones. I like the Who because Pete has always credited the Stones and not put themdown like Bob Plant, Bono, and others.. Put down? Its just opinion. And basing your (narrowing your

QuoteHouseBoyKnows Quoteflacnvinyl Regarding Still Life, I am just comparing the old original vinyl release to the Hampton 81 recent re-release. Just the modern 'master the heck out of this thing so that people will bad sound systems hear the bass' technique.
