Some time ago the band of a friend of mine played before my band for a benefit concert that we had organized. We all played mainly covers. After the concert my friend asked me what I thought of his performance (it was his first outing). I told him that I loved the second half, but the first was so and so. "above all what was that s... you played just before the band intros?" "

That is his name (well, was, he died last summer). Interesting "freudian" choice for Mingus, I would say!!! So we can say he was also a great "trombonist" in real life (Trombatore in Italian means F u c k e r) C

I was in a "Mingus mood" yesterday: I played in a row (at maximum volume) almost all of his CDs. I L O V E Mingus!!! Anyway, when it was the turn of Oh Yeah, (Mingus debute on piano and ... vocals!!! + Roland Kirk Booker Ervin Jimmy Knepper Doug Watkins and the great Dannie Richmond on drums - one of the greatest blues combos of all times) I recalled that Keith had covered Oh Lor

Well of course I was joking before, but only in the form (anyway I beg your pardon: couldn't imagine that some tough rockers may be offended!) I am for a free world, and if one wants to smoke he can smoke, for all that I care. But, ad our boss noted, this is the 21st century and I am happy I don't have to be forced to smoke my share of your freedom. Of course I am also an hypocr

"The problem is that only a special category of people, the affluent, will be able to buy those tix and of course the die hard fans will buy although they probably couldn't handle the cost" Not exactly true. I may be considered a die hard and the prices are high. On the other hand there are many ways to prove I am a die hard fan. Standing in a line for days to get cheap tix is

Well, I wonder how Eddie Vedder reacted when he learnt that his arse will be admired by people paying 400 plus USD ... Besides that, McReady IS a fan and I would truly love him being invited for a guest spot during the stones act. It is not unusual to hear bits and pieces of stones music during PJ gigs (I can remember Sympathy, Burden and Angie). Did you ever note that in the solo of A

No way I can be considered a devoted fan of "boring" EC, but he did do something more than MTV unplugged after he quit cream. Just to name one, Layla (although slightly more than 20 years old) was one hell of a double LP! C

I see his good old tellys are still working, but what amps? Can't see them. I have not yet had the chance of hearing the set on a decent stereo, but there IS some distortion there on the new one, right? Pedal? Amp? C

Nothing much I can add, except if you can buy it in the US! This for many reasons: dollar vs. euro exchange rate is the main one, but also quality of avarage products over there is outstanding if compared to Europe. Further I would not buy an electrified acoustic, they are mainly crap in the range you are willing to fish. C

5031. Undercover
I always loved this one. I know we have discussed Undercover many times before. So this does not want to open a true discussion. But after a week end of full immersion in stones music of all different periods I just wanted to let everybody know that I've seen the light: I am positively convinced that Undercover is the best album that the stones have ever recorded. Why? Simply because it

"t was all live for those last few seconds, and it was much more soulful sounding and straight from their hearts. @#$%& the sampling, it has no place at a Stones concert." Agree 100%, and on the boot you can hear it! It's like the guitars wanted to show how it is done their way ... C

Just for the record, the show did not receive good reviews by the press here (Corriere della Sera). Same as ususal: first Cream were great, how sad they split. Then: Reunion is a nostalgia act, they are all too old, the magic is lost ... You NEVER get what you want! C

Did you notice how lively the reprise is compared to the rest of the song? Did you notice that the reprise was done with the sampled congas OFF!!! Samples and loops kill live music. C

" Liddas - I question your judgement on that MSG show from 2003. That's the one that made it on HBO right? I along with alot of my "Stones Fans" friends were very disappointed with what was produced "musically" on that stage!!! The boot I heard from Boston was light-years better!!! I can remember that article very well, I bough that mag on the way back from NY to Milano after the MSG concert (HBO one)! Correct me if I am wrong (I am at work and I don't have a cd with wild horses), but the electric guitar parts on WH should be the following (all in standard tuning). Intro: the descending line Verse: harmonics played around the 10th and 12th fret Chorus: little

I totally disagree! Tours: My first tour was in 1990. For the press they were only old farts even then, and they were in only for the money. My feeling before the first concert was "of course this is going to be embarassing: 5 old men acting as if they were 20 ... ". If this had been the case I would not have had any problem admitting it. It would have been normal. Instead they tot

I believe he was. Especially his rhythm work. It was more relaxed during the Mayall days, it got sharper and more "on the beat" with the stones. To use an Italian expression, he showed his balls! Ventilator blues is a clear example of what I'm saying. Of course you couldn’t play safe 4/4 rhythm with keith in the band! But listen his shuffle on r'n'r numbers or Rambler: it
