Great song, great music and lyrics, what's not to like? Can't hear this song without thinking about the Stones sitting on that NYC porch staircase and Keith loosely swinging around like he's got no bones or something. lol Brotherly love/friendship is one of the things I things that I find attractive about a rock band and Mick nailed it with these lyrics and feel. My favori

Quotechop Interesting article Methinks Perkins probably failed the spotlight test. He looks more Michael Dukakis than Rolling Stone LOL He probably should have gotten the traditional English shag haircut prior to the tryout and no doubt a couple more months with Keith and Anita would have had him looking like a Stone just fine.

Quotemr_dja Lovin' that version of Sympathy... Works for sure! Thanks Naturalust! Also: I've got a buddy who is very avid traditional bluegrass player/fan/teacher who has a VERY open mind, I'm going to put in a request to him for "The Last Time" and see if he a) takes the bait or b) can point me in the direction of someone who has already worked it up. I'll ke

Quotemr_dja I just surprised myself when I ran a youtube search for a bluegrass version of "The Last Time". VERY surprised that it turned up nothing. When I saw the suggestion in your post, it made perfect sense to me. Looks like you can be the first to post one! I'm pretty sure you've got far more "acoustic" abilities than I do, how are your bluegrass chops?

That was indeed very cool. Really sweet sounding guitar and it give you an idea of just how good Keith can be with the nuances and phrasing.

Quotemulecrowe About 3 hrs of this kind of stuff would be fine with me. I always loved that rehearsal version of Brown Sugar too. Simple and effective rock and roll that. Makes you appreciate every single one of the musicians!

Quotemr_dja Though I could easily imagine one of the many bluegrass bands here in E.TN being able to perform TOTR in bluegrass style, I wouldn't say the Stones version is a bluegrass style. Rock & Roll yes. Blues possibly. One of the main things that makes the Stones version NOT bluegrass, in my mind, is the piano. Drums are also not typically a part of traditional bluegrass but have

QuoteMatt Half speed mastering or not. I don't think a recording like Exile will benefit much from beeing half speed mastered. It's a muddy recording lacking of nuances so I guess there is nothing hidden that will appear in full clarity? To achieve that I think the whole album needs to be remixed, but then the sound of Exile, that we like, would be lost. However a recording like SF gain

Quotemulecrowe Just thinking how great it would be to see a complete show of B-Stage like songs. Doubt it will ever happen. I realize that the current type shows appeal to the 1st time concert goers who obviously want all the war-horses. I remember 97 in Buffalo, listening to Little Queenie on the B-Stage,if you closed your eyes it sounded as good as Ya-Yas. Any thoughts? Of c

Quotelatebloomer I'm just gonna rely on the audiophiles here to tell me whether it's worth it.... Hey bloomer, theoretically it could produce a more accurate sounding record but if your ears are over 40 years old I doubt you're going to hear much of a difference. A lot of the original 1/2 speed masters were done to compensate for equipment limitations in perfectly reproducing hig

QuoteBobbyb98 I don't understand why all of these rock stars are so against The Dead. The inventiveness, creativity, and beautiful melodies/lyrics that their music has far surpasses most bands' music. Obviously I don't think they stack up against The Stones or Beatles, but I'd take The Dead over The Kinks any day. Most of these rock stars have probably never been to a Dead

Great great tune. It's got a nasty groove that explodes into a perfect chorus with awesome horn and piano embellishment throughout. Certainly one of the most Exile-ish tunes on the whole record, especially the way it evokes the hot and dank basement at Nellcote. There is a short clip of this tune on the Stones in Exile DVD where the intro guitar lick is played slightly different from the

Very cool Big Al! Thanks for posting. There is precious little video of Jimmy Miller around and to watch him playing drums was a real treat. My first thought was that there was no way that was Jimmy Miller on that cheap trap set and looking so different but when I saw it was his step son that posted the video I realized it must indeed be the great man himself. Sweet!

Nice post STG, I almost believe you but not quite. You lost me on the multiple shows part. Plus, I suspect you have not spent near enough time on the West Coast to have the proper perspective. Lets just look at Stones lyrics to get a better spiritual home understanding, I believe California probably near the top of the list for most mentions. Have the Stones ever so graced Toronto with such ho

Considering Keith was 27 for most of 1971 I'd say there might be some correlation between heavy drug use and that age that actually dying from them.

Quotebv The Rolling Stones performed 15 shows across North America half a year ago. Just a kiss away... Sure they can do the same anytime they like. Feel free to discuss this as much as you like. I am just stating my own opinion here. Thanks. You know us Americans, we are a greedy and self interested bunch, with loads of disposable income, a fact not lost on Mr. Jagger.

QuoteTornAndFried The difference in profit for a stadium show versus an arena show is not as great as you think. Stadium shows use a large, expensive stage that requires a large labor force to assemble, more security and ushers, and higher logistical overhead. Tickets for arena shows are generally priced higher on average and while the number of arena seats is much less than in a stadium, the net

Quotemickschix Why do you rule of arenas? If they did 5 nights at MSG it would accommodate well over 110,000. Plus no hassles with bad weather. I thought the HUGE shows were taken care of in the Zip Code Tour! Hope they stick to INSIDE gigs! I skipped the stadiums because I hate that many people at a show and to pay $500 to get WET..not for me anymore! I don't rule anything out at this poi

Also, how about a return to Hartford? They also LOVE PHILLY! I don't think the MSG shows are lame at all! I'm sure they can fit in a few gigs there...money talks! They WILL play MSG for sure. I love the thought

No I don't hear this as a Mick parody. If it was John would have probably used some Jagger lyrics to drive the point home. He doesn't strike me as as the kind of guy who would be so subtle if parody was his intention, which is kind of evidenced by that great "That was 'Can You Dig It?' by Georgie Wood, and now we'd like to do 'Hark, the Angels Come".
