As per Start Me Up/Microsoft: I recall a big number at the time, but Mick still acted like it got away from him. He said something like, "This will never happen again!" Mick can be a BSer. For the EXILE reissue, Mick first did a MOJO interview (England) in which he was obviously hoping to pass off everything on every "outtake" as having been recorded in the 70s. But MOJO

Excuse my cynicism, but I remember Mick expressing outrage that Microsoft used Start Me Up in its early Windows ads (because of the "start" button), and then years later I read that Mick had signed off on the whole thing from the start (for a nice fee). This might similarly be for mere public consumption. Tina Fey said she just pulled a few reruns of 30 ROCK because some actors wore

Mick and Keith on Richard, from a sort of festschrift of an article at : KEITH: “The first time we realized we were on the same stage with Little Richard was in 1963. That seemed like the top of the world for us. That’s as big a thrill as I’ve ever had. The most exciting moment of my life was appearing on the same stage as Little Richard.” MICK: “I had heard so much about the audience rea

QuoteMoreFastNumbers QuoteTitle5Take1 When Mick used autotune with SuperHeavy, I wondered if he'd ever use it with the Stones, and now he has; but I think it's used discreetly and well, only really dominating it spots, and with a euphonious result. What about Doom & Gloom? It doesn't matter anyway, yeah Uh, there ain't no autotune in Doom & Gloom (for fcks sake!).

The man standing with Bill on p. 209 of Bill's book who is identified as Truman Capote is definitely not Truman Capote (for one thing Capote stood 5' 2" tall, and this man stands at the same height as Bill. For another the Stones and Capote weren't too keen on each other after Capote's accompanying their 1972 tour. And, in general, by 1981 Capote was in rather a social ou

In (I think) Rolling Stone Magazine, Keith was being interviewed backstage when Sprint (the phone company) was the Stones' tour sponsor. A handler interrupted the interview to tell Keith, "Time for your meet-and-greet with the people from Sprint." Keith said sourly, "Sprint in and out." Might start to feel like you're in a vitrine.

Placet! For something unfinished I like it a lot. (Sorta brings to mind Too Tough.) Mick said some songs on STEEL WHEELS were a bit "unfinished," but repetitious as are Terrifying and Almost Hear You Sigh, I still love them just for the feel and sound. This could have been similar, with Mick adding great attitude. Thanks for sharing, never heard this before.

Chuck Berry doubtless treated the Stones worse than they treated him, even though they became the "bigger band," and the Stones never got self-pitying about it. And here's Ronnie on Jerry Lee Lewis: "Keith got mad at him because he said to him, `Son, one day you’ll learn how to play that thing!' Keith stormed out and went over to my pub. He was pacing up and down. I we

Mark McGrath (lead singer of Sugar Ray) told Leno on The Tonight Show that, when Sugar Ray opened for the Stones at the San Jose Arena (on the No Security tour), for their "Stones photo" the Stones snuck up behind the members of Sugar Ray as though the Stones almost hoped to stand behind them for the photo and sneak away before Sugar Ray even knew they were there. After the photo th

I saw Lisa in S. Calif tonight with this same (above) lineup (she opened for the SFJAZZ Collective) and enjoyed it if didn't love it, with Fever unidentifiable by me until 2/3rds through, her rendition being so (willfully) different. She sang Jumpin' Jack Flash and turned single syllables into sesquipedalian, multi-note acrobatic displays that had me wondering what Mick and Keith would

QuoteHairball And as little chance as there might be, maybe there's something brand new? I wonder how often they've performed a new original tune live before its studio-album release. I only know of Worried About You at El Mocambo Tavern. (Yeah, probably some set-list wallah has already answered this somewhere here.)
