The Jimmy Page rumor came from a Rolling Stone interview from the time. Page said he played on Scarlet and it might possibly be their next b-side. I’m assuming people bought the IORR single and Scarlet never came out, so they assumed that was the b-side he was referring to, hence the rumor. But it’s 100% Taylor on the lead guitar and Richards on the wah/Leslie he used for ballads back then. I’

QuoteBlueranger Besides the already mentioned, it’s also on the 2005 compilation Rarities 1971-2003. But the liner-notes are wrong in stating it’s from No Security, which it isn’t even on in the regular edition, though there is a version included on the Japanese version, but that one is a totally different recording. Heard it today on Rarities!

QuoteMathijs QuotePalace Revolution 2000 looks like Bobby is blowing along. Apparently, he did throughout the 1970 tour, but not any other tour. Can't hear him on any recording though. Mathijs **Oh are you saying just on "Midnight Rambler". Interesting, I can't hear him on Secrets Travel Fast. I was thinking maybe he's playing a baritone part that'

^ I had already updated this and I agree, KR on electric guitar: QuoteTravelinMan QuoteTravelinMan Do we have a consensus on the lineup from the original sessions? I understand Wood overdubbed a guitar 50 years later, but I'm specifically talking about the one featured on the "fully finished outtakes". I hear: Jagger - vocals Richards - acoustic Taylor - electric guitar

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteTravelinMan Who plays slide on this? It sounds like Keef but I've been told it's Wood. The chunky riff guitars sound like Keith, the twangy (Strat) two sound like Ronnie (the ones that sound like cats) and Keith (bendy honk sounding guitar/grinding twangy high notes ala Stray Cat Blues). The snarly slide guitar (right speaker on TY deluxe) sounds like Keit

QuoteMathijs Quotepowerage78 Each to his own. 1978 Ronnie's solo is good, but nothing exceptional. But there's so much more going on than Wood's slide, it's a total band effort whereas 1972 is fantastic Taylor playing over what I find quite boring stuff... Mathijs It sounds like the same exact arrangement, with organ instead of a horn section. I don't understand

Quotepowerage78 Each to his own. 1978 Ronnie's solo is good, but nothing exceptional. 100% my favorite Love in Vain is 1972, but I'll give 1971 another listen. 1972 has much more going on compared to '78 with the brass section and Nicky Hopkins on piano. The way it builds to the climax is absolutely sublime. It's one of my all-time favorites.

Interesting. So the version with the arpeggios and Taylor's solo was done at Olympic. Taylor was playing those arpeggios as early as Altamont. Richards wisely took his time to hone that second guitar part. Piano was overdubbed at Olympic* *Not so sure. It might have just been mixed out here and added back in because there is definitely piano on the basic track.

Quoteretired_dog QuoteProfessorWolf so do we just count it as a black and blue outtake then? If historical accuracy still counts anything these days, I guess we have to! No way it was recorded for IORR, because 10 days before IORR was released everything concerning IORR was already carved in stone... So, technically it wasn't an IORR outtake. I doubt it was recorded in mind for any al

Quotepmk251 In the discussion about the '69 Hyde Park show the word "raw" can be used. This show has somewhat the same vibe. I especially enjoy the struggle with Torn & Frayed before Keith and Taylor hit their stride for a delicious ending. There are boots that are unlistenable but this is not one of them. Complaining about sound quality misses the point of being transported b

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteTravelinMan Who is playing the buried licks in the outro? Sounds very much like Keith, phrasing-wise. Those licks just always were there - I've never bothered to listen closely. I did that now Yeah, they're low in the remix as well.I was thinking maybe from their keeper take and it bled into the drum mics as they were all in the same room.

It’s cool because we can hear they originally intended to do an acoustic/hybrid acoustic country set in the middle of the set, but there seems to be sound issues. I wish they kept Ventilator Blues in the set because it’s a good sub for Stray Cat Blues

QuoteChrisL If anyone has the time to read this about the Oakland shows, it looks pretty cool. I only read some of it ... He does have this ... The closed circuit TV screen, looming large above the stage, allows scrutiny of his facial movement: He moves like a ballet dancer who knows he’s baaad. “I was born in a crossfire hurricane,” he almost pouts; as “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” begins, he’s
