QuoteGivenToFly15 QuotekowalskiThat's exactly what's happening with recorded music : even if they don't have the masters anymore, record companies can still issue CD's (or digital download) from copies of copies. That's not the problem here: of course you can always issue digital versions... The argument is discussed in the article linked above. Anyway it seems the s

Quotedcba QuoteHis Majesty You can. Did they? Anyway nothing beats the original media. Can you imagine the curator of a museum plainly saying : "yup 1000's of ancient paintings were burnt to ashes in the fire but that's okay : we still have high-resolution digital pictures of most of them so nothing's really lost!". The guy would become the shame of his profession

A summary of the lost masters : "The list of artists affected spans decades of popular music. It includes recordings by Ray Charles, B.B. King, the Four Tops, Joan Baez, Neil Diamond, Sonny and Cher, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Al Green, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffett, the Eagles, Aerosmith, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Barry White, Patti LaBelle, Tom Petty

A quick review of the regular 3-LP set (European pressing). - Packaging : overall, good quality (thickness, printing). I like the cover art and band members photos have a nice selection. However having no booklet of any sort makes it feel quite cheap and minimalistic... It's worth mentioning it comes with a download card. - the vinyl are quiet (no pops) and play perfectly. Obviously a

Quotemartinw So, does the "Spanish" Sticky Fingers have the 30 second silent track and stereo 'Let It Rock' instead of 'Sister Morphine'? It has the live version of Let It Rock instead of Sister Morphine...

QuoteSomeGuy This loudness war thingy is indeed worrisome. It reminds me of the period around 1980 when Bob Clearmountain was associated with making single mixes for car stereos. The so-called "loudness war" is trending since the mid-nineties. One of the first band to have a CD louder than everyone else was Oasis with Morning Glory back in 1995.

Quoteironbelly QuoteHMS Out Of Control sounds different on HONK to my ears. Haven´t heard the original studio version in a long time, but isn´t there a trumpet that is missing on HONK? The Honk-version also seems to sound less clean and slick than the original... it also seems to rock harder. Have to compare, but I think there is some different mixing done, at least for some parts of the song...

Out of Control on Honk is the regular album version, ie the same one as on Bridges to Babylon. Honk version is the 2009 remaster and because of this features a more upfront bass. The Saber Mix (full length version is 5:46) is heavier on bass and has MJ voice more upfront but it's not that different from the album version. There's also a "Bi-Polar at the controls" version

Quoteboogaloojef You would also need to add Hang Fire, Shattered and Time Waits For No One among others. You would need a third CD of studio tracks then. She's So Cold just fits at the end of CD2.

That's another strength of the 3-CD edition : (at last) they used the songs full length versions. Add She's So Cold at the end of CD 2, and you get the best overview of the Stones last 45 years or so...

After a week of listening I reckon it's the best Stones compilation for post '70 material so far. A good balance between well-known classic titles from the 70's and the 80's and not so well-known classics from '89 onwards. Plus a couple of less known gems and a nice selection of the most recent output. The live CD is cool to have but not essential to me. The 2-CD set is g

Quotetreaclefingers If memory serves the only one that didn't make it was the Toronto Light The Fuse gig, which is a shame. Right, that's the only one from the original Stones Archive series that wasn't released on vinyl or DVD.

Texas '78 is technically not from the series "From the vault" but it's of course from the Stones vault and one of the best archive release since 2011. I quite like the sound of my Marquee vinyl.

Marquee '71. One LP : Some Girls Live in Texas (2 LP's): Sticky Fingers Live 2015 (3 LP's) : No Security - San Jose '99 (3 LP's) : LA Forum '75 but the version on Ward Records (the Japanese label) as you get the full concert on vinyl (4 LP's) :

Quoteironbelly Quotefrankotero I don't notice anything unusual with Harlem Shuffle. Maybe you got a bad disc? There is very unpleasant sound in the very beginning. Some effect is compressed beyond reasonable. That effect is hidden deep on CBS, Virgin and recent Japanese SHM editions but pops brightly on 2009 remaster. I just checked all those versions. It sounds like a glitch at the end of t

Thanks, I didn't see it. Might worth to start a new thread though as these Japan-only releases are not linked to Honk... At least curious to see the mini-LP version of Sticky Fingers with the Spain cover.

That was a fun reading, thanks! It should be said though it's an "article" (?) from 2009. Wondering what the "journalist" (??) would write 10 years later... Bless the Stones for still being around in 2019.

The Stones should ask for more. They are living legends. Whoever wants to shake hands with the 4 remaining Stones should be ready to pay the highest price.
