QuoteRollingFreak QuotePaddy I would kill to see Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood & John McVie just once. It pisses me off that those 4 and Danny Kirwan never played another gig. I know its hard, I don't know who kept it from happening. Its possible it was just never in the cards with Spencer and Kirwan, and even Green to be in that frontman position again. But I consid

I'm thinking about him right now ! Last night I was at a burger joint and Paint It Black from the Ed Sullivan Show was playing on the video screen. Fab stuff. I'm not a "Brianista" but that era of the Stones (essentially the Decca period) has always been my favourite. Wish the band and ABKCO could find their way to releasing some more lost gems from that part of their career

Quotemarianna Why didn't Fleetwood & McVie try a little harder to bring parts of their old incarnation back together for a limited time? It is a rhetorical question, but both of them relied on outside talent for very different versions of the band. They furnish the name, but not much creativity. Kirwan wasn't even at their HOF induction. The Stones went out of their way to make s

It was announced on the Fleetwood Mac Facebook site that Danny passed away on June 8th. He was an incredible talent. The Green / Kirwan combination remains one of the greatest guitar double acts in the history of rock. It has been mentioned that at one point he was among those possibly being considered for a guitar slot in the Stones. I don't know if that's true. If you're not f

achilles77 beat me to it but I've just received my copies of this book. Well it's actually 3 books. If you collect the many live recordings of Peter Green 1966-70 in circulation these books are essential. Many of the tapes are in limited circulation so you might be surprised just how much stuff there is out there. Rich Orlando has produced a great piece of work and the origins of th

QuoteHis Majesty No recording took place in September 1966. He hadn't even been asked to write music for the film at that point. An error that keeps getting repeated. It's most likely all recording took place over a few sessions in February 1967. Really hope the soundtrack gets a proper release some day. Copyright might have run out on it in 2017, but probably runs out in 20

Quotepotus43 Think his bodyguards ever have guns? I do I don't know. Are you basing your "think" on any specific evidence relating to Sir Fab and his security arrangements or just making an assumption ? I "think" his security could probably protect Paul and kick your ass within seconds without resorting to gun violence. That would be acceptable to me and still work w

Quotepotus43 QuoteMisterDDDD Paul looking good in Manhattan this morning. Good on him. What a joke Who ? McCartney on an end gun violence march ? Unfortunately he has some personal experience regarding this issue and I'm not surprised he'd want to show his support at an event which, as he said, was taking place very close to where one of his best friends was murdered. Not sure

About time. I thought he must have turned it down already. Over fifty years later looking at what they achieved as probably being among the finest commercial artists of the 20th century and as a social phenomenon (in a way that none of the other groups of the time were) it's fully deserved. Certainly more so than those gits who just bang the party in power a bunch of money and get to bend th

Very strange "release". Does this mean that the rest of the circulating Satanic Majesties outtakes are now out of copyright ? Why have they just issued two versions of Bill's track ? Is this 1967 from the French Radio master ? Is Brian Jones the project co-ordinator for ABKCO / Stones release policy ? Even in his present condition he could probably do a better job. It's eas

That is correct thanks Deltics. When I said Charlie wasn't there yet I purely meant in musical terms. His fills are all over the place on that first BBC session but he was there in body ! Maybe he was nervous that day or just didn't play well. No such problems on the other BBC sessions as far as I remember.

Quote24FPS Jesus H. Christ. I just heard Walking The Dog, Little by Little, and Ain't That Loving You Baby. What a rhythm section. Now I see what the Stones had the Beatles never could pull off, danger. Danger ? I thought you were going to say the ability to mis-label tracks, use inferior sources and end the song on a sloppy drum fill. But seriously, both groups had superb rhythm sections

Felix Aeppli has pointed out that I Just Want To Make Love To You on this set is not from Saturday Club but the recording from The Joe Loss Show as the presence of screamers confirms. I make that 4 mislabelled tracks so far - I Just Want To Make Love To You / Walking The Dog / Hi Heel Sneakers and Ain't That Loving You Baby. That's a bit crap. I said hey, hey hey hey hey moaner.

Quote24FPS I'm so glad I have no boots to compare On Air with. It will be all new to me. Nothing to piss and moan about. Ignorance is bliss and I'm envious. I first heard these tracks over 30 years ago when they were re-broadcast for the first time since the 60's in Stones At The Beeb on the BBC. Some of the tracks are terrific and I particularly like Aint That Loving You Baby (B

Alexander has just pointed out to me that Walking The Dog appears to be from the April 1964 Saturday Club rather than the February 1964 Saturday Club. Good spot there. The Feb version has the lead guitar line an octave higher which is a useful identifier. Anyone else able to confirm or deny please ? I think he's right.

Following a query from Felix Aeppli, I'd like to point out that in addition to Ain't That Loving You Baby being mislabelled on the On Air set (it's from Top Gear 1964), Hi Heel Sneakers on the official set is from The Joe Loss Pop Show April 10th 1964 rather than Saturday Club April 1964 which it is listed as being from on the sleeve. The Joe Loss Pop Show version is incomplete (

If Aint That Loving You Baby is the same version we all know and love it is from Top Gear 23 July 1964 and not Rhythm and Blues 31 Oct 1964. Looking forward to this release. Hope they found some upgraded source tapes.

To get the stereo effect, the listeners were given rather complex instructions. This is one of the first times in history the stereophonic sound was ever heard on air." Dear Rolling S

One of the earliest videos was made by the Big Bopper for use in this country in the absence of personal appearances in late 1958. That gave Jack Good the idea to film several over a week or so in 1960 including this one, so well before the Fab4 or Stones "invented" pop videos.

Both those promos smoke ! I think the one with live vocals also has a different or re-jigged back track but I could be wrong on the latter. My guess would be that they did the "live" one because of the Musicians Union restrictions on TV miming at the time. The Beatles had fallen foul of this at the end of 1967 with the Hello Goodbye promo and on shows like Top Of The Pops there had to

Quoteonestep Sorry if this has been shared already..... BBC Rolling Stones I think it has. Seems to be missing a split second at the beginning. Hope that's just a mistake uploading. The boot version effectively has an extra bass note right at the start. If they have just used the boot source (as has been suggested) for this official comp. I will be very pissed off.
