Excellent band. Highly talented musicians with the option of sax, vibes, flute. Their 45s are classic beat group pop but the UK albums reveal a different story. Massive jazz influence played by highly competent players. Paul Jones is an absolute demon on the blues harp. I'm not keen on his voice but he was a top front man. A few years back my Dad was visiting and when he arrived I was play

Quoteachilles77 I am wondering about the legitimacy of this upcoming release. It says "Fleetwood Mac have given their full approval for the release of these tapes", but is this just another bootleg, and is the stuff on here truly previously unreleased?? Comes out in about 1 month... Thoughts? Well it is legitimate but the Sony page suggests that these tapes were on

Quotesnoopy2 Thx Ash, love this stuff! I have a copy of Bowie's Diamond Dogs (the picture disk) that has track 2/side 1 listed as Bewitched with songwriter credits, but as far as I can tell there is no Bewitched, just the first track Future Legend. Other copies I own of this album don't have this listed.. Back to the Stones, is the tape of 2120 South Michigan Ave the same as what

Dust My Pyramids hasn't ever been (re)located despite rumours to the contrary. The BBC programme log says it was only 25 seconds long. Several other editions of Rhythm and Blues from that era start with a piece in the region of 30 seconds. I would imagine that this would be an introduction of sorts perhaps with Alexis Korner introducing the band over the top. recorded 8 October 1964

Quotedcba Quotefunkydrummer I guess the raw tapes will never see the light of day? 1 Or Jagger bought them some time ago? Part of the 67 show was broadcast in 1995 on Europe 1 right before the July 3 club-show. The Paris tapes are owned by Europe 1. ABKCO had as much right to use them on a copyright preservation release as they did to copyright Don't Lie To Me to Mick and Keith, someth

QuoteHis Majesty Friday, 3rd December 1965 - Sunday, 19th May 1968. why the 3rd December 1965 ? Keith nearly died ! He probably thinks it was funny in retrospect but at the time everyone was freaking out apart from Andrew who was kind of freaking out because Gered Mankowitz wasn't taking photos of it.

My preferred era is the Decca era and I think it's fair to say that if none of the other eras existed, the Stones would still be widely seen as the second best British band of the 1960s. Their run of singles from Come On to Honky Tonk Women is only matched or bettered by the (largely) non-album singles runs of the Moptops and The Kinks. While they only started coming up with masterpiece LP

Quotebuttons67 heres my extra tuppence worth regarding the ongoing rivalry between the beatles and the stones. point 1. think its wrong they are compared only up till 1970, when the stones produced many great songs after. if the beatles were capable maybe they might have stayed together, obviously they had their reasons for not having the quality of stuff the stones were about to put out rea

Quotestraycat58 Quoteash QuoteKennedy I believe that's why the Paris 67 recording was given a very limited release last year. Interestingly (or perhaps not) , I don't believe ABKCO has any rights to the Paris 65 to 67 concerts. They belong to Europe 1 who recorded and broadcast the shows Musicorama and/or it's parent company. I am currently trying to obtain a licence for a 1961 c

I Don't Know Why is listed as a Jagger / Richard composition published by ABKCO on the BMI.com music website catalogue. So is Don't Lie To Me. I'm not sure how that's possible. Surely both should have been corrected by now or a note inserted with a correction.

Quotemarianna Is this the same as the Sea of Tunes bootleg material? I;m sure there may be more of it, but at least some of it has been around a long time. I don't think there's much overlap. Much of it is completely new to me and I'm pretty obsessive on Brian Wilson up to 1971-ish. These two sets are in pristine sound and contain some truly sensational stuff. In Beach Boys arc

Quotepeoplewitheyes Guess I'm the only one then... Nope, I stayed up till midnight to get these when they appeared. Superb sets. Evidence of the continued genius of Brian Wilson and the emergence of Dennis as a creative force. So much to rave about on these two sets and some totally gobsmacking moments of musical beauty not to mention the snippet of I'm In Great Shape which, speaking

Quotemarianna Rock critics sometimes tend to jump on the same bandwagon. They also think they are there to impose some kind of order, therefore they like lists. The "Pet Sounds" as the top recommendation is like telling people to eat vegetables. There are a few people who truly love that album that much, but the fact it takes the top spot so often? Brian Wilson did actually tell peopl

Quoteandrews27 The thing about Forever Changes is that there's not really much playing by the group on the record. It's all members of The Wrecking Crew, ace studio musicians, essentially making the songs up in the studio according to ideas by the band and dictates by the producer and the record execs. The whole purpose was to create something that could get airplay so that the group

Aint That Loving You Baby is from Top Gear and at least one other track isn't from the show they say it is. They don't appear to have used any surviving BBC tapes held by the BBC and other parties and their Transcription Disc transfers are not the best they could be. Is it The Last Time that has an error in it ? like a skip ? The sleeve note contains inaccuracies and the book was fa

Quotebv Outtakes are unfinished art. You may get them on bootlegs and through other sources, but they are not supposed to be released to the public. It is like an author should be releasing all the notes related to every book they are writing. The book - or the song - is the final product - the art - while the work towards that art item is not to be published to the public. Later on, for hist

I don't understand the reluctance of the band and ABKCO to do something with their 60s catalogue of unreleased music. Even if they don't have every multi-track / master from that period we know from the Mobile Fidelity/ABKCO listings that they have a few cd.s worth of outtakes. The Satanic 50th box was piss poor and their "copyright protection" releases were a joke and possibl

Quotetatters No one, probably not even the surviving Beatles themselves, seems to remember that they also played there (with 10,000 of the 55,000 seats empty) on August 23, 1966. well I knew that even if I don't remember it (a bit young for that). Hey Steffialicia, how was your Fab experience ? I'm jealous.
