I have been thinking about the Wood/Taylor comparisons, which I know have been discussed ad nauseum, yet I have another way to describe their relative contributions. I think of Taylor as a colorist (rather than solosit) who brought already-good material to another level when the band was at a high point, and put a distinctive stamp on material he did not record with them (I'm Free, Gimme

They brought out the best in each other, obviously, and neither is as good without the other, which is why it's such a sad lost opportunity that the band doesn't realize that (or does but refuses to acknowledge it).

Yes, early days when it was all about the blues Brian did some nice guitar work.

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteJamesMadison Aren't those just Rolling Stones' hits? Give me his one time all time great effort and I will give it a listen. Hits? Try Whip from Sucking In The 70s first. Then Little Red Rooster from LYL. The latter is perhaps the best slide work on any Stones record. Try Summer Romance for a nice raunchy studio solo. Only Undercover is close to

QuoteTurner68 QuoteNikkei Quote71Tele QuoteNikkei Why so eagerly proclaim "the end of their career"? Neither we nor they really know what's coming next. If anyone doesn't think they are approaching the end of their careers, I want some of what they're smoking. Everything approaches it's end because time won't stand still. And those thoughts return every tour

QuoteNikkei QuoteJamesMadison Pray tell me, what is Ronnie Woods greatest accomplishment with the Stones? He has great stage presence, gets along with Keith and Mick, but what recording does he play on that he knocks it out of the park, his one grand slam home run? Hey Negrita? That, and perhaps Beast of Burden and Whip from Some Girls. But even those were more nice team efforts (I won'

QuoteTurner68 As a newcomer to IORR I have to say I'm surprised at the near-hero worship of Mick Taylor, who in my mind was a great live solo player but never quite gelled with the band after the 69-70 tour, and the nearly complete absence of discussion of Brian Jones. Brian - like Mick, Keith, Bill, and Charlie - was a true innovator, helped created rock-n-roll as we know it, and consta

I won't pretend Mick Taylor's skills haven't deteriorated - they have. So have Keith's and Ronnie's, perhaps to an even greater degree. But that isn't the point. The point is what fun and adventure could be had, and what good feelings could be created, by having all three Stones guitarists out there at the end of their career. Whatever the reasons for the band not do

Quote24FPS Always try to remember the real time when Taylor was there. Mick Taylor never fit visually. That front line of Jagger/Richards/Jones set the template. Taylor was so quiet, with little stage presence. They already had the Cigar Indian Duo in Wyman and Watts. It was obvious, especially upon later listening, that Taylor was a supreme musician, but one who was uncomfortable being a hired g

QuoteGfmsoccer Well the reviews are in, and overall it was a great club gig in LA, if you were one of the few to experience it. For all the Mick Taylor minions, I read all the legit reviews and they said the only song he was really missed on was Can't You Hear Me Knocking. His guitar was missed as they focused on Sax & Keyboards last night. Otherwise they did great with Sticky Fingers

QuoteLeonioid There is no debate. Ronnie is a success. It is a fact and some people mouth breathing the same insults over and over and over brings notthing new to the table. Some see all posts, about anything, like this simple article about Ronnie as another opportunity to mouth breath insults towards Ronnie and/or this band... and then they get predictably indignant and overly emotional when

I was going to say that he voluntarily wears a bowtie, which is nothing more than a 'look at me' ploy, I'm an east coast elitist. One can imagine he must have been a gas(bag) when he was a kid. He's actually a Midwest elitist.

Quotejazzbass The biggest reason IMO Chuck rubs people the wrong way is because his FOH volume is always too high in the mix. This is a guitar driven band with piano/key enhancements and since Bridges to Babylon IMO the band has been much more keyboard centric live. Also, Ian was one of the best blues/boogie boogie players IMO, and this is just not Chuck's strong suit. He's fine for the
