Wow! On behalf of idiots everywhere, I apologize for not adhering to the Wikipedia definitions of lead and rhythm guitar. I've got to assume that's where you found your bolded definitions as they are exact copies of what is stated at the Wikipedia website on their lead and rhythm guitar pages. Note: if you would have just read down to the final sentence of the paragraph you took th

On Topic: Keith's a guitarist... Rhythm, Lead, Electric, Acoustic (nylon & steel stringed) AND "Bass Guitarist". Which leads me semi-Off-Topic to reply to "71Tele"... Although I can somewhat understand your 'chafing' at the term "bass-guitarist" (personally I like bass player as opposed to bassist), I think you're going to have to get s

Not too worried about an American Idol take-over... First, FOX would have to get the broadcast rights to the game. Second, I don't believe that the NFL would allow what would amount to commercial for a TV show to be used as a halftime show. Third, although American Idol is a hugely popular show in the USA (ya'll can tell me what the rest of the world thinks of it), the Super Bowl is

Quotefirebird Quotestoned in washington dc the guy from north mississpi all stars who now plays with crowes does a mean taylor Luther Dickinson. His predecessor Marc Ford would also be great, but I doubt Keith' ego would allow such a good guitar player for the Stones. Although I'd much rather see Ronnie in Ronnie's spot, I agree that Luther would be a dream to see in Ronni

Little bit of interesting language. I'd be interested to hear what some legal experts have to say about the wording. Especially experts from UK as what I'm about to bring up is decidedly USA... The AP is reporting "possible domestic assault". In the US "Assault" is anything short of physical contact. If I swing at you and miss, it's assault. If I swing

From what my Mom & Dad tell me, I've been interested in music since I was still in the playpen. Piano lessons (cause Mom & Dad said so) and choir started when I was 9 and then I finally made it to the drums (childhood dream) around the age of 10. Tried guitar around middle school but failed as the piece of crap guitar they bought me really couldn't be played (they didn't

Hate to hear that Aretha's not worth the cost of a ticket anymore. She's one of the few remaining legends that I haven't seen that I was still wanting to catch. Folowing is the true story of the closest I got to seeing her and also the closest I've ever been to "the twilight zone". I live in eastern Tennessee in the USA. A few years ago, my wife and I bought ti

QuoteLieB Yeah, that's a good description, mr_dja. The word "beat" is generally a little unclear. Syncopation is a lot more defined -- it means a note between beats. Playing behind the beat, I suppose, usually only means "lagging" behind a little -- which in terms of syncopation could be on maybe the 253rd "beat" if you divide the 4/4 into 256/256... What a f

The best way I've heard it described was by a teacher I had post-college. He said to think of a beat as a wheel on a bicycle. If you think of that wheel having a stone in it, you will hear a click every time that stone hits the pavement. Think of that "click" as the beat, if you then place the note you're playing just behind that click, you're on the back-beat; just in

Have you thought about any Stray Cats tunes? Also, if you're a fan of early Rockabilly, I got a 10 CD Box Set off Amazon called simply Rock 'N' Roll which turned out to be (in my opinion) far closer to Rockabilly than Rock 'N' Roll. Link to the amazon page I just found advertizing it: Note: for anyone interested in early R&B (pre rock & roll) the Rhythm &a

I've been teaching guitar and bass for about 13 years and one thing I've found is that, unless you really know the song well, internet based guitar tabs, for the most part are horrible and can be very frustrating. My advice to you would be to find a songbook filled with tunes that your son likes and buy that. Obviously a beginner level book would probably be better than "record

QuoteHis Majesty Stu was the 2nd stone actually, Brian the 1st. Great point Majesty. After Brian 'left' that would have made Stu the highest ranking of the remaining members? No wonder they were so worried after he passed away about who would keep them in line. The argument can obviously go both ways as to how it's turned out. It's still an interseting concept, the E

I think that any actual member of the Stones would tell us that, though Bobby Keys has been around close to forever and holds a legendary place within the hearts and souls of the band and it's fans, he's still just a hired musician. There were so many... The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, Huey Lewis & The News, Aerosmith, Little Feat to name a few. It wasn't until I heard "Midnight Rambler" off of Hot Rocks (actually the first Stones album I ever bought) until "it all made sense". The blues, rock, rock & roll, everything laid out in front of me care of The Rolling St

I've got to go with Aerosmith. That being said, I remember when the Crowes first came out, I actually had the thought that, if they wanted to, The Stones could actually retire (thank God they didn't) as there was finally someone to pick up and carry the torch for them. To me, Aerosmith and the Black Crowes are radically different bands. Aerosmith is far more of a "Hard Rock&qu

I can't believe that after 2+ years of lurking around at this site, my first post after becoming a member is "OT"! How about "Layla" off of Clapton's "Unplugged" album. Classic Rock stations here in the US still seem to play The Dominos version but all the others are playing the Unplugged version. Also, Did the Beach Boys ever record a studio version
