I couldn't agree more about Undercover. The subject matter of that album is dirty and gritty, yet the production style is way too clean and neat. The studio sessions I've heard on bootlegs are more true to the Stones sound and the subject matter of the album. I also agree that Steel Wheels is the other album where they missed the mark on the production side. At least Undercover has

QuoteJustin If they have this 5 year plan why did they already re-release the catalog this past year? Because everything from Sticky Fingers to present was off the market once the contract with Virgin expired last year. The Stones didn't sign with a new label to not release its albums. And Universal wasn't about to invest in a band and not release it's product for up to five year

So why is the SACD format suddenly showing signs of life when Blu-ray technology is readily available, and way more people own, or will soon own, Blu-ray players? I see that Tom Petty is putting his new album out on BD, and his live anthology was put out on BD last year along with Neil Young's Anthology box set.

I'm finding all the Universal remasters to be a double-edged sword. The remastering itself is very nice. The music is clearer and crisper, and I'm hearing things in the background I've never noticed before. But, these discs are too damn loud, which makes for an exhausting listen. I noticed the second Rocks Off came on that it was brighter and louder and knew immediately it was goin

QuoteWeLoveYou I read an article in UK recording magazine Sound On Sound - it was about how the Beatles back catalogue had been remastered. Predictably the new CDs have a lot more compression (to keep up with contemporary mastering trends so the explanation went), however the vinyl versions were done with little or no extra compression bar what was there to start with. They said the vinyl release

Quotegeorgelicks Quoteajc68 Another thing to keep in mind is there are multiple versions of this release, and they all count separately on the Billboard charts. Billboard will count all the version together. Admittedly, I'm out of touch with the Billboard criteria. I know at some point they started counting double albums as double sales (which I don't like as you're buying one

Larry King: When do you tour again? Mick Jagger: I don't know yet, but I look forward to doing it. Larry King: Is it always word wide? Mick Jagger: Yah. Larry King: Thanks Mick. Mick Jagger: Thank you so much. End of interview... Now, back to your speculation and bitching over a meaningless soundbite that most of you didn't even hear and was somewhat misrepresented by

Quoterusty After i brough my copie, it was Sold out on Friday in my hometowns one of the bigger stores. There was only 1 double CD. NO copys of Exile on Saturday in another 2 big stores. Great job Universal, great job. Universal's goal is to move as many units as possible. Are you really sure it was their fault? Most catalog reissues aren't ordered in large quantities, if at all, t

Is the new vinyl release the same as the original 1972 edition, or the 1973 re-release (traditional gatefold packaging) that was produced for the rest of its run? Also, is the vinyl package that comes in the Deluxe Edition packaged the same as the individual re-issue?

QuoteTeddyB1018 Actually, I think that's switched back 'round again and new catalogue releases are now put into the regular Billboard chart. I hope they did, because it made no sense to change it. Overall sales are overall sales after all.

So far ADTL is the only bonus track that has popped up. There were rumors of 11 new songs were being mixed for this project several months ago, so unless they've done additional work since, that's probably it.

Joel was an angry young man until he met and married Christie Brinkley (which is understandable). Around that time his musical direction changed and the songwriting well seemed to dry up. But all of his albums up to The Nylon Curtain are very good. The Essential is a nice sampling of all phases of his career. Disc one basically covers the glory years, while disc two is all you need from the later

Quotepmk251 Frankly, I find all this promotion embarrassing. It only points out the age and irrelevancy of the band. I think a good chunk of the contemporary bands and artists would kill to draw like the Stones every time they hit the road for years on end. The Stones have nothing to be embarrassed about as their place in history is secure. We're living in a new era where the music indust

I stopped listening to FM years ago as its been garbage since deregulation. I've been on satellite radio for about eight years now. MTV is reality TV (for teens and twentysomething's), not Music Television.

QuoteJames Kirk Has the promotion been that big besides the Jimmy Fallon stuff? Yes, tons. They're getting multiple magazine covers with feature stories. There are newspaper interviews across the country. Multiple radio shows doing features. The NBA has been using RTJ in each broadcast with its video montage. Larry King's interview with Jagger airs next week and they've been show

Quoteoldfool What a bunch of bollocks about Charlie's participation! That's not him playing drums neither on Happy nor Shine A Light. It's not his style or sound. I believe more in the original liner notes that list Jimmy Miller. Nor is it Charlie on the outro of Tumbling Dice as we learned recently from the Andy John's interview that it's Jimmy Miller saving the day. I

You may have missed the connection as to why Stones week is even happening. The label they are currently on, and that is reissuing Exile next week, is NBC/Universal, and Fallon was the only choice that made sense (no way it would be Leno or Daly). And there's no way CBS would air the Exile documentary, or allow Letterman's show to be used to pimp a competitors product for an entire week

Quote71Tele Another news flash: Apparently Charlie couldn't get the outro section on Tumbling Dice, so Jimmy Miller takes over on that part of the song until the end. This first popped up in an Andy Johns interview in March. Here's the passage: Obviously it was going to be great but it was a big struggle. Eventually we get a take. Hooray! I thought, "Let's kick this up a
