QuoteTumblinDice76 Agree with ya, but one correction, it's Chanelle Haynes not Sasha Allen this tour. Yep you are so right mate, this goes only to show how the age thing creeps in even among us fans - but I reckon the "76" indicates you are a freshman comparatively ;-)

Judging by the recordings only, I have to say this has to be the best "version" of the band since - at least - the Licks tour more than 20 years ago (exceptions like the glorious 2013 outing at Glasto not withstanding). Take SFTD for example, when was the last time the guitar parts - if played at all - were not awkward excursions but actually complimented the song? I could go on with HT

QuoteMrBird65 Quoteslewan QuoteBlueTurns2Grey RIP Franz. It was such a pleasure to watch you play football. We have lost one of the greats, as a person and as a footballer. Beckenbauer was surely a great footballer but rather a Dummschwätzer (German for a person who talks without thinking) than a great person - even when he talked about football. You Got the Silver was obviously the template for all of Keith's crooner ballads that followed starting in the 80s, so the concept is actually quite old but Keith went back to it more often recently possibly because he finds it fitting to his mellowed older self. Personally I like to listen to one of those once in a while (depending on my mood) but one at a time is enough, the plodding cree

Not much finesse in there but a smooth listen, easily a 6/10. Would be even 7/10 for me without the distractions (TD clone intro and, indeed, the "canned" background vox bits near the end)

I was too young back then to take notice so I have no sense of this album's significance as a "return to form" or "gain their cultural relevance back" move. Instead, I rather take the hindsight perspective and tend to notice patterns on this album that I also find in much of their more recent output: - the @#$%&-off attitude displayed in tunes like 'Lies' and &

I reckon he has used his time well monetising the LZ legacy (pretty much like ABBA's Benny Andersson), pursuing his charity activities and enjoying quality time with his young wife. For me the dust has settled meanwhile, and in the light of day I find myself grouping the album cuts into three categories: - songs that (still) make me push "repeat"; those include SSOH, LBTS, TMS, and oddly WWW. "Oddly" because I can see why some others dismiss it as being rather "lightweighted", even "poppy" with its teenage drama lyrics and the all to

QuoteIrix 'Dreams' (Jagger, Richards) - Forty Licks Outtakes 2002: , Listened to this today, and it was an eye-opener: how could those promising sessions result in the four turds that eventually made it onto the 40 Licks collection? And more specifically, what happened to "Don't Stop" on the very last mile - this is a night-and-day thing, who drove all life and col

QuoteSpud Not sure Keith said very much new or surprising... ...with at least one remarkable exception: who would have believed that Keith and Bill are on such friendly terms? There have been countless posts suggesting that Bill holds a visceral grudge toward the two principals, and Keith was supposed to resent Bill for "quitting" and whatever else. Another myth disproved...

Quotedmay What I don't get is Wenner dismissing women and people of color (oh my, I just used possibly a forbidden term) in being music leaders and shapers. You will probably still get away with the term "women", "birth-giving beings" may be deemed more appropriate, though. On a more serious note: freedom of speech comes with exposure to (public) criticism and a medi

QuoteRocktiludrop I was then gob smacked at the decision to drop Brown Sugar, seems like the Stones have joined the woke cult. If the Stones were really serious about political correctness, 98 per cent of their catalogue would have to be blacklisted and we would be treated to a 120 min version of 'Dandelion'...

Quotecharlesbaudelaire American Graffiti soundtrack defined the era of rock and roll. Rock and roll was dead by the time Easy Rider (Altamont) occurred. Let the good times roll! Charles Baudelaire 1821-1867 ...maybe not quite dead yet, but in agony... makes me think about 'Fear and Loathing', which I consider an illegitimate ER offspring: that could have been a monster of a mo

QuoteThe Sicilian QuoteGasLightStreet It's only fair to give Steve Jordan the chance - or whatever you want to call it - to play. After all, it's not YOU playing. Any idea why he won't roll? Jordan will be different. Maybe eerily similar. Maybe Jordan will be so different you actually like it. People pay to listen and SEE who is playing. Granted, in concert havi

Quotenoughties The movie was quite uncool compared to Easy Rider. It talked to a totally different audience. Plus, Easy Rider was released already 4 years ago by then. I remember that guy on the bike with his thick glasses trying to stop before he reached the end of the parking pit. He didn`t, the scooter thumbled and everybody laughed. Be that as it may (I doubt if the comparison against Easy

Wow, quite a few gems brought on, I would not have believed it! Most surprising for me is how creatively the rhythmic and melodic potential of the instrument has been used over the decades by so many different artists. I will assemble a playlist including many of the tunes mentioned. New Faces aside, that one - I stick with that - is, to me, just cheesy and meaningless. So many knowledgeable peop

A local radio station aired Simon & Garfunkel's 'Scarborough Fair' yesterday - which I had not listened to in decades - and I have to admit that the harpsichord part not only fits in nicely but lifts this song to another level. Since I was on a lengthy ride home in my car with nothing else to do, I tried to remember more examples but ended up with only a handful, the obvious on

Of the very early years: It's All Over Now (bring it back on stage already!) Of the Big4 period: No Expectations (supposedly not underrated in fan circles, but criminally underused live) Of the latter years: indeed, Tie You Up should get the nod, with Break The Spell being close 2nd.

When watching Crossfire Hurricane lately, I was once again overwhelmed by the wit and originality of the JJF video and I wondered how this and other gems (Strawberry Fields!) were used back in the day. This was way before MTV, so in which context were music videoclips broadcasted/screened? were they relevant promotion vehicles at all or was this rather a case of l'art pour l'art?

Hi all, I just got to watch and listen to the the BBC broadcast on youtube. Considering that is 'only' the warhorse loaded 2nd half of the set: what a miracle going on there! I used to skip the likes of MY, SMU, YCAGWYW, BS, let alone SFTD and Satisfaction for years and years because they sounded worn off to death to me and I did not see why to bother with musicians who look, act and
