This is very sad news. I was wondering just the other day where she had gone. She was a great poster. I will put on Down Home Girl and make some popcorn in her honour.

"Perhaps the strangest though was Richard Lewis dancing by himself to the music in a remote corner of the room for most of the evening." Great story about a great comedian. Bill German, who obviously was also present, added that Lewis would occasionally turn around and give a thumbs up to the other people in the room, and then turn his back to the world again. And he played a mean a

Helsinki - Finland 1970 Fantastic picture. But it raises some questions: 1. Who are the babes? (I mean, not Watts, Wyman and Taylor but the other two.) 2. Who's the little chap in the cap pushing the buttons? Looks like a miniature version of Richards in 1964. Spooky. 3. Speaking of buttons: why so many in Wyman's fly?

QuoteDoesn’t sound like a Stones fan from the Earls Court piece. You're right, but Amis was an enthusiastic fan in the Sixties. He could certainly be a smart-arse: "a grinning bongoist" is not the most respectful description of Ollie Brown. Anyway, I agree with the posters above that Money and London Fields (and the protagonist named Keith) are both very funny and worth read

Yes, Ronnie Wood (on the same show as Jerry Hall, if memory serves me well), can't find it on YT though. Barry Humphries was truly great. Here's an off-colour joke from Sir Les:

Sad and curiously unexpected news but I guess we should be thankful that he cheated death for so long. Great story about Ian Dury here: "1980's BBC music course" Thanks for the link. I had missed this completely.

This is sad. Norm was well-known at least to my generation of Swedes since the early 90ies and SNL, and then The Norm Show. His SNL opening monologue - having been fired from the show just a few months before - is superb.

On the other hand, the statement that ”I’d done three years apprenticeship and wanted more money, being Jewish, so I moved to a bigger firm, which sent me to Sweden, ah, Denmark” would be very strange, not to say unpleasant, if he wasn't somehow Jewish, making a tongue in cheek remark about his background.

What? Shirley, she deserves to rest in peace. Her In the Freud Archives is great prose, a testimony to a sense of acute observation, and great humour. (And, through Peter Swales, has "some kinda Stones connection") But I agree that her comments on other people were often exaggerated and left the reader with a bitter taste in his or her mouth.
