Martin Elliott has very kindly clarified the entry (below) in his Complete Recording Sessions book. It was his entry (a) Alternative Version. (2.06) which I did not understand and could not find any info about which triggered me to post. 9 July 1963 Decca, London, England. S0027. Fortune Teller I (2.18) (a) Alternative Version (2.06) S0028. Fortune Teller II (1.56) Martin has now

Thank you to everyone for the info. It is now clear that on 9th July 1963 the Stones recorded only 2 versions of Fortune Teller ( a 2.16 take and a 1.56 take). Both of these had audience overdubs added in 1966. However...............the original question still stands......Martin Elliott lists 3 takes on 9th July 1963.......what is the 2.06 take ? or has Martin added this take mistakenly

I am organising my digital Stones collection into chronological recording sessions and would welcome some help with the track "Fortune Teller". Nico Zentgraf lists 2 versions of Fortune Teller both recorded on 09/07/1963; Fortune Teller 1 (with repeated last verse and a harmonica) Fortune Teller 2 (with single last verse and no harmonica) Version 1 was released in 1964 on the Sa

Thanks again to all for your posts, especially Ironbelly for posting the cd picture. This collection of songs is not well documented when it comes to the Stones involvement. Nico’s site does not list any recording of IWBYM as an ALO orchestra track………….which may suggest no Stones involvement at all. This was the period that ALO was doing his Phil Spector thing and Jagger/Richards were busily tr

I think the Bootleg Beatles or the Counterfeit Stones would go down very well as openers……..and I’m not joking.

On the auction site amongst the photos of the Stones is a very early pre-Stones pic of Mr Wood looking very young.

Brian is using the Vox peardrop guitar, so would that date it either 64 or 65 ? I don’t think he used it in 66 and it’s first use was when “It’s All Over Now” was released. The clothes look 65. The stage front has a protective wire mesh on a wooden frame added. This was not common in Uk theatres, many of which had an orchestra pit which pushed the audience much further away from the stage. I am not sure SSOH would work well in a stadium setting………….it is a slow paced song. I Got The Blues worked at the Marquee and SSOH worked at the Rackett, but unless they come out into a small stage in the audience, which they are not going to do again imho, then I just can’t see SSOH working well. I also doubt they will be playing a 2 hour set list any more, unless it is seated!

QuoteRolling Hansie Yes, every now and then Perhaps the problem would be resolved if you stopped listening to that rival group ! It’s just like back in the sixties now.....1st a Stones single, then. Few weeks later a Beatles single.......who would have put money on that.

I don’t think there is any film of him on stage pre 1969.....but I haven’t checked Charlie Is My Darling.....I believe he used to play in the wings (edge of stage but out of sight of most of the audience). You could also explore the NME Poll Winners concert footage from 1965, that was a big wide and deep stage and he may just possibly be at the back, he was certainly present setting up. How

QuoteMathijs QuoteHis Majesty Parts you previously thought were by Keith and never criticised suddenly become mediocre when you find out it's played by Brian. You really have to remind me on this, as far as I remember there are no parts played by Brian that I thought was Keith. If I recall well, I only doubted the intro to The Last Time, as this is unlike Brian in my opinion. Mathij

What is it I wonder that makes the Stones think they have to go through this long, drawn out charade of “teasing” out this new album. Why not just release it? Seriously........why go to the lengths of projected light shows, press conferences. Etc etc.? The album is so long overdue that many of the tracks are likely to be several years old rather than “new”, more accurately described as “

I believe Brian was sacked. By “mutual decision or agreement” is wording still regularly used today to present a bad situation to the public in a good light. To maintain the dignity of all involved. In later years Charlie is on film as saying, basically, (this is not the exact quote) “we took everything from him, even his band” or words to that effect. Brian’s father also gave an interview say

Cotchford Farm is important not only for the obvious reason, but in Stones history this is the place that Brian was sacked from the hugely successful band he had created. Only the Beatles were bigger than the Stones in the sixties. So what happened in the house that night in 1969 when Mick & Charlie visited totally changed the course of the Stones as a band. Please note : I can't
