You're probably right, The real issue is that, for may reasons, they're not really interested in providing the best sound quality ... I'll just stick with my old gramophone. It'll likely see me out

QuoteStoneage I do not think that Wyman was that poor as he claims to be. I guess he got paid in a lump sum and nothing in between. Was he counting on getting a monthly salary like ordinary workers? Is that it? How could you afford an expensive villa in France and expensive cars and so on and still being poor? Did he live on a bank loan or what? I suppose that when you move in such rarefied c

QuoteIrix QuoteSpud So where do I shop to get genuine Hi Res to stream or download ? See my post above. Regarding dynamic compression (loudness war), it depends on the mastering. There're excellent ones and also bad ones. But it's not the fault of the digital format itself. Excellent masterings would be e.g. TSMR, BB, LIB by Bob Ludwig in DSD - . The whole 2016 Mono-Box was

QuoteIrix QuoteSpud So often it isn't ...and the stuff you end up downloading might as well be an MP3 or compact cassette in terms of musical information . Sounds you're looking at the wrong places (or doin' something wrong) .... So where do I shop to get genuine Hi Res to stream or download ?

Yes, you can do all of that ...where the music you want is routinely available in the highest res formats. So often it isn't ...and the stuff you end up downloading might as well be an MP3 or compact cassette in terms of musical information .

This is my huge frustration with the whole industry today ! You cannot routinely buy or source music in the best available digital format. It's stupid .

QuoteGasLightStreet ..EMOTIONAL RESCUE sounds incredible. BLACK AND BLUE is fantastic, no doubt, but ER has a little more kick to it. Maybe it's the mastering or EQing but it's got a bottom to it that's just seeping out of the pocket, a little bit of rumble that kicks, unlike SOME GIRLS, which sounds like it was recorded in a glass room - probably the worst sounding Stones album,

Joking aside ... There's a breed of music lover who, right from their youth, always got into music and artistes from the generation or half a generation before the current stuff that everybody else was listening to. I'm certainly in that number ...and it's a curious, interesting trait. Edited to add... Here in the UK , you'll know who you are because you started

You know you're getting old when the stuff most folks call nostalgia is just far too modern.

Also, the Stones have always been musical "Marmite" .' Folks either love them or don't tend tolike them much at all. Nobody likes the Stones a little bit ...so there aren't so many casual purchases of their recordings.

I've sometimes wondered whether there's more divergence in the market these days. There are a lot of people who attend a lot of concerts as "events"... but never really sit down and listen to music at home . ..and there are lots of people for whom listening to music is their whole world...but who hardly ever attend concerts because its now too expensive and/or too much h

Picking up on some of Doxa's comments ... I think it's fair to say that they lost the remaining elements of mystique and danger as we moved out of the last century... But they've made some pretty good music since...and they still put on a show that's up there with the best. It's just that Rock N Roll ain't what it once was . and ..yes we have all grown

Yes It's nonsense . If they concentrated a little more on making the content sound good ! They also need to recognise that the "certain middle aged demographic" aren't all affluent and can't stretch to the high cost of these products ...which is largely due to fancy packaging

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteSpud Is Start Me Up a truly great song ? It's a great example of what many folks want and expect the Stones to sound like. But is that the same thing ? If you require that question actually answered, then I'm happy to do it for you. Yes. It is a truly, absolutely great song. Single-worthy. It's the reason why it get played in stadiums

QuoteBig Al I'm scratching my head, trying to recollect where I've seen a snippet before. Does anyone have an idea? Or, am I misremembering; perhaps it was only pictures from the interview? Well, some of it was Keith's then stock answers to the stock question of the day. You maybe remember him saying the same thing to somebody else That said, I don't remember seeing

Bill's bass lines often have some really interesting counterpoint ..but the thing that adds the "roll" and makes it swing is the way that Bill, Keith and Charlie each feel the timing. Just a magical accident really.

Well, yes . IORR is the one "in need of attention" from a sound quality point of view. I think we discussed it's shortcomings in a thread not so long ago.

QuoteBig Al [] Because it’s anthemic and was released during a period when the Stones had a reasonable chance of having a hit, regardless of how ‘good’ it is. You've maybe answered your own question Al To what degree it's the quality of their subsequent work, and how much it's just a function of the changing times we can't really know.
