Sort of floored--and, then again, not really at all--by her resemblance to Nash's (ex-) wife Susan. Pic is from a couple of years before she and Graham got together in '76.

Saw them do it at Giants Stadium in '97. A one-off (I think) on that tour, and supposedly pulled out that night because Ahmet Ertegun was backstage. I was in heaven that night and was also (pleasantly) shocked at well it held up when I heard a boot. It's the song that originally turned me from a fan into a raving freak for the Stones...

I think it's a beast of a track, a tune that I discovered long after Undercover's release and one that has become a real favorite. For my daydream setlist... Medley: "Pretty Beat Up"/"Just Wanna See His Face"

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteRev. Robert W.Re: the sessionography...weren't there sessions at Montreux late in '75 and/or early '76? And wouldn't those have to be the ones in which, ahem, memories of Hannah and of Montauk were used for the song? 751019A 19th - 30th October: Montreux, Switzerland, Mountain Recording Studios (without BW). QuoteRockingLonestar Maybe I´m just confused, but if I got it right; Memory Motel was recorded late March/early April 1975 in Munich and the rehearsels for the US tour in Montauk took place in late April/May 1975. The problem with that old timeline is that Jagger would have had to have written about the motel on the basis of an earlier visit to Montauk (at least one documented--immediately foll

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. Absolutely awful... Puts her oft-discussed "diva" behavior in a sad, sad light. I'm guessing that the relationship had ended recently...?

After decades of dining out on tales of the 1975 tour, she did a little interview with Jagger for VF on the occasion of the Exile reissue. She asked Jagger about the significance of the album as "the first time" the band had "really explored American music." Which would be pretty much like sitting down with Scorcese and asking about The Departed as his first crime film..

I'll put in a specific plug for Sailing Shoes (1972). I love the original, four-piece down 'n dirty Feat and it's a monster of a record. Of course, Dixie Chicken was a mighty follow-up and equally brilliant in an entirely different way. It's hard to think of a time when a band so completely revamped its lineup and sound and bridged the change with two such superb records

I always wanted to like "Silver Train" more than I did based on the studio recording... Sounds great onstage. As with "It's Only Rock 'n Roll," it really comes alive in front of an audience.

Rock 'n roll perfection… I actually think the Live Licks version is pretty damn strong. Some hot playing by Woody.

At one time or another, every song on the album has been my favorite. Which is really the best tribute I can give to the record as a whole. But I'll just take side #3. The blood and guts of the album, I think.

QuoteDandelionPowderman I enjoyed the 1999 version of Little Queenie, even though the 1969 version was better. Just saying... I revere the '69 tour as much as anyone, but really? I think the 1997-'98 Queenies are a prime example of how the boys have grown in their blues/soul/rock&roll covers...

Having a laugh thinking to myself what it would've been like had Jagger released the Red Devils material… Can you imagine how pissed Keith would've been at that? Somebody mentioned "Charmed Life" above. Was that developed for Wandering Spirit? I've always liked it, actually. But it's a revamped Emotional Rescue outtake, right? "Charmed Lif

"And the city gets bigger as the country comes begging to town" is a good one, for sure. Seriously, I'm very glad to have that pointed out… But I'm not sure I'll ever get over: "Stuck between a rock and a hard place/ You better stop and put on a kind face"

"Evening Gown" is such a gem. As is "Hang On To Me Tonight." And the title track. In general, there was always something missing for me--never could quite put my finger on it. It was a nice tour of Jagger's strengths, but seemed a bit calculated. Didn't have the immediacy of Main Offender… Probably my favorite moment on Spirit is "Handsome Molly." Suc

QuoteDandelionPowderman Biggest Mistake has an Aftermath-feel to it, imo. Something about the chorus, and Keith's guitar playing as well. I didn't like it at first, but this is one of the ABB-songs that really has grown on me - probably my favourite from that album today. I've always been convinced that "Biggest Mistake" is a leftover from Alfie--just sounds so music

QuoteBlueranger My respect for the album is bigger now. When I heard it years ago (I'm from 1980, so it must be about 1995 I heard it), I thought it was a very uninspired listening experience. However, it is clear for me now, that they wanted to try different textures and sounds and get away from the Exile sound. On those grounds, they succeded. It will never be a favourite, but it stands
