I think MT always felt like an outsider in the band. Definitely did not have the loyalty and commitment that Wood expresses. When MT left, the band really lost something musical that was never compensated by Wood's contribution.

MT hides behind his "manager". His manager may communicate the conflict but the origin of it is undoubtedly MT. The love/hate conflict predates his manager. QuoteMathijs Quotewavelength I think his conflict is that he grew to resent the hand that fed him and that he that he is under no illusion that without his tenure in the band his career would not amount to much. He must find

He has always over the years made snide remarks about the band or his experience being part of it. I am paraphrasing a bit because I don't have the exact quotes in front of me. "People ask me why I left the RS, but the more astute question would be why did I ever join them". "I actually liked the Beatles more than the Rolling Stones". "When I first played wi

I find MT life narrative really haunting and tragic in many ways. In spite of his incredible talents he became his own worst enemy, a victim of his self-destructve personality. I always though his life story would be the good subject for a play. A man sitting alone in a bar drinking, reflecting upon his musical and personal life. He would be an old man and people from his past would drift in a

I agree. I saw The Faces on their farewell tour in the fall of 1975. I was front row, standing right against the stage. Super energy. The band was really having a gas, lots of group interaction. At point someone next to me offered Rod Stewart a bottle of Southern Comfort and he actually took a swig. Ron Wood was great and having lots of fun (Jesse Ed Davis was also on guitar.) I get the sense he

I often read in this forum that "it is not for us (ie. the fans) to decide if they continue on or not". Obviously the actual decision is made by the band but how it comes about I think is heavily influenced by their perception and gauging of public response. MJ is particulalry image conscious. I would imagine at this point they are particularly concerned about their legacy, how it will

The sense I get from MT is that he has severed himself from the RS (and the public) since he toured with them then got the royal snub when he was not invited to the Exhibitionism opening. Clearly something went down during the tour. Maybe someday we will know the inside story. He lets his GF leak stuff that often includes a

I love MT and his playing to death but yes I agree he has "issues". Who knows what kind of toll a life of addiction can play on your mental state. I don't entirely trust his version of events. I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will rise to the occasion.

Agree. It's a discussion forum after all, are we not supposed to discuss? You can be sure that the RS are not only mourning but engaging in intense discussions on how they are going to frame the future of the band. Why shouldn't we? As if what is said on this board will influence whatever decision they make.

At one point Roger Waters declared Pink Floyd a "spent force" and left. Later there was some musing about a reunion but Richard Wright passed suddenly. Inconceivable without him, they called it off and all declared it was officially over. They individually went on to do their own thing occasionally playing together but not as Pink Floyd. That is what the RS should do.

A LIFE Keith Richards page 455 (LVS = Lead Vocal Syndrome) If you combine congenital LVS with a nonstop bombardment of flattery every waking moment over years and years, you can start to believe the incoming. Even if you're not flattered by flattery or you're anti-flattery, it will go to your head; it will do something to you. And even if you don't completely believe it, yo

It has been one decades long ego trip for Mick Jagger. When he couldn't make it on his own solo he fell back into the Rolling Stones fold. They guy is so self-centered and full of himself, He lives in the MJ bubble. KR goes into it in his book. I don't think he knows how to express empathy. When Bowie died the only thing he could think of saying when interviewed is something to the effe

They are reaping what they sowed; blinded by ambition, hubris, ego and self-deception MJ probably being the driving force. The dyed hair and shiny clothes do not mask the reality of what they have become. An ageing wax museum music show. The audience are not clamoring for a song from Steel Wheels but going crazy to the opening riff of Satisfaction or HTW. They should have quit decades ago. Ho

Mick and Ron had health problems now it is Charlie's turn. (I always liked his sardonic self erasing tone. I hope he recovers promptly.) At that age anything can happen at any time though I am sure they have all gone through meticulous medical screening. Huge fan of the music from a finite period less so of the band in the later years. They have been elevated to divine status by devout

What a sham! The band achieved musical irrelevance decades ago and transformed themselves into a travelling Disney show. They are selling a dream. They might as well have found a replacement drummer that looked sort of like Charlie, put a white wig on him and no one would know. You can be sure they had a contingency business plan that covered the eventuality of any one being unable to p

MT made an irreversible decision to leave. sick of the scene, the personalities, the music. he would have been a fit for black and blue but not some girls. it was down hill musically for the RS from there anyway. he didn’t really have a plan. the jack bruce thing was not really a factor in his decision. he did not stay for money and fame. he made the right decision. what happened after is a diff

QuoteSend It To me I'm sure this has been posted on before, but it seems strange that Taylor never cashed in with a book. I wonder if Stones paid him NOT to write one, ha. I remember reading an interview with MT. At the end he chided the interviewer telling him that he was stealing material that could be in his (MT) book. He is all too aware that people are mainly interested in his Ro

QuoteRocktiludrop I really would enjoy someone putting their thoughts towards this aspect of Mick T, it's fascinating in a way more than success, because for the life of me i don't understand how you can be as good as Taylor and do so little about it, he obviously has some issues with getting his act together, I find this aspect imminently fascinating as well. It is what really d

QuoteTheflyingDutchman If MickTaylor had dived into Jazz Rock and a bit more of a sober lifestyle, he would have forgotten about the Stones for 40 years already. He could have become another Jeff Beck, who isn't a "songwriter" in the traditional sense either. I agree. Had he had a successful career after the Stones he would not be complaining about credits on a few songs 40 years

The difference between MT and othe guitarists is that his playing, in addition to being incredibly executed, is also often beautifully melodic. He can play in so many different subtle styles and variations. One just has to listen to the progression in Winter. Speed has never been for me a measure of guitar acumen. I really like Jimi Hendrix and appreciate his innovative style but his playing
