Same here. Agree that the sound is a bit more dense as well. Unfortunately some bits of audience interaction are missing on the vinyl, most notably the "little-known number we hope to make popular" Luxury (at the end of Melody...)

Spud, do you know if the Sticky Electrola is as good as the Exile? Have a chance to get one quite "cheap" but didn't like any later Sticky issues so far...

Quotejoshbg2k Never heard a UK Artisan and I’ve heard they sound especially good, but I’m not sure how they could be better than a US Artisan. I have a first press Monarch and first and second presses from other US cutting houses (Specialty and/or Presswell from memory) and they all sound sorta the same to me. Is the UK Artisan a unique mastering? My assuption is they are all the same mastering

Yeah that's the brilliant US Monarch pressing. Exile is the only record I really dig into. Although it's fairly "easy" as all Artisan pressings are so good I somehow can't stop diggin' deeper and deeper...

Yeah, the Electrola is fantastic! Found it interesting that the UK 79 EMI is so bad, I thought they are probably the same mastering. The UK Artisan is otherwordly... just so good. What are the matrix numbers on yours, Spud? I found that 1/2 matrices are basically the same, whereas my one D3 side is compressed af. Does anyone have any inside into the Artisan mastering process? Did Andy John

Meanwhile my Exile quest continues... Got hold of a 1979 Japanese pressing - praised by many - and didn't really like it (at least not for that kind of money). It's a similar take as the Electrola and I like that a lot more actually. Finally got a clean UK Artisan (1/1/1/2) and have to say that it beats all the other Artisans I have (although all of them are brilliant).

Sorry, ironbelly. Appreciate those uploads, just didn't have proper time to listen to them (and didn't wanna make a fool of myself AGAIN). Would be cool of you could post the solution though!

Quotewiredallnight I am always astonished and surprised what silly and absurd ideas and thoughts people can have for a post here, like "Your 10 least favorite Stones tracks when it rains at 6.35 in the evening on a Tuesday" - or this thread! That would be Dead Flowers. Works on a rainy Wednesday but certainly not on Tuesdays...

Yes exactly. Exile is one of those records that should be played loud (whatever that means) anyway. I still have to crank up the SHM-CD even a bit more to make it sound good. I think it's nice to have but not essential if you have Artisan pressings... I like the Electrola a lot actually. It's my favourite non-Artisan pressing (on par with the original Japanese). It has a nice warmth

QuoteSpud Couldn't have been the Flat transfer in 06...not without time travel Box I was referring to is from 2010 but yeah, kinda makes sense that they put the 2010 remaster in there... Got my flat transfer SHM-CD - great. But needs to be played real loud. In fact it's pretty much the only CD I have to turn up to match the volume of the LP for comparison purposes.

Was able to spin a copy from the first 71-06 box. It's not the flat transfer, it's the standard Marcussen remaster (with "www.gzvinyl.com" in the runout). According to discogs there's a US version with the same barcode and "TML" in the runout. Anyone has this?

So in terms of the more recent LP releases, is the following correct? 2010 Marcussen remaster (which I also found in the first 71-06 box set) 2016 1st half-speed remaster (with Abbey Rd Obi based on a Marcussen file) 2018 2nd half-speed remaster (only in the new 71-06 box based on flat transfer) 2020 individual release of 2018

QuoteSpud Wouldn't have a clue to be honest. I can't even remember when I bought the German Electrola pressing but early 80s would be about right I think. ] Was able to pick up an Elektrola copy at a record fair today and am really liking it so far. As you said, it's a bit more polite than the Artisan and it lacks a bit punch and in-your-faceness bit it has a tremendous bass an

Exactly this. It's fascinating. I never got it when people called Exile "murky" (still don't) because to my ears it sounded so great. The drums alone... I understand it's not Dark side of the Moon and you won't be able to decipher what exactly is going on here and there but this is rock'n'roll in the end. It's purified greatness, the essence of... ever

This is great, thanks. Even after knowing that S2 is Universal - which I dislike on my stereo (although not as much as the Exile Universal) - I like it best on my phone with crappy/average headphones... Although Ludwig sounds good as well. Looking forward to getting the two SHM CDs with the flat transfer (sans "K") next week.

I only have Around and Around on Teldec. I think it's solid, can't compete with early Decca pressings but it's definitely good value for money.

Didn't find any differences in the 2016 HSM to the (bad) 2010 remaster. Willing to give the 2020 HSM another shot, the one with ROOM 30 in the runout. Btw Spud, do you know if the UK 79 EMI is the same as the German 77 EMI/Elektrola? Gave the UK a spin earlier and didn't like it at all. I fancy those moments when the horns blow off the roof on RTJ, SV etc. and that one completely dim

Thanks will check out the Elektrola. I have several Artisans, all great, like the Japanese 72 as well although it's probably a bit too polite. Some seem to love the Japanese 79 which I haven't heard yet.

I don't like the Universal at all, the Virgin is quite good (but not on the same level as the Exile Virgin CD imo) and I don't really know the CBS that well. For me - same as with the Exile Artisan cut - everything changed after I got my hands on a UK TML LP...

Try the 2011 SACD or the 2013 BluRay with a mobile HiRes-Player (Astell&Kern, FiiO or Cayin). Apples and oranges. Most do not have hi-res equipment in a car or on a train or jogging in th
