hey thanks! I should have guessed it was Ry Cooder... covered this song with a woman live a long time ago & not revisited the original till now. It's really good guitar... could have done with a whole albums worth in that vein.

Anyone know who played the guitar on that song? Any other info for the sessions? It was a single I know but any other material done or out there as boot? I'd be happy for anything... Cheers,\jasyr

Its unfair to compare any band to Lennon/McCartney. They "Song Doctored" each others stuff. Producers get points. There's arrangers, managers, girlfriends/boyfriends, loads of people have input to how songs end up. Dylan depended on his studio band's alchemy & quick thinking to synthesize vibes. Without Jimmy Miller the Stones Golden Mid-Period probably would have been

I just saw Rolling Thunder DVD. Bob plays slide... cool! A quick look says he played quite early on in his career. Can anyone tell me of other occasions he does it? Live or on record? thanks! jasyr

Cheers for advice here on which ALO books are essential (got Stoned and 2 Stoned) a few weeks back. Enjoying Stoned now, its FANTASTIC. More than i hoped. Now want to do the same on MF... Whats the difference between her self-penned books? The 1995, or 2008/Memories one to get? The newer one has the same title as a Jung book and Amazon's algorhythm put all the reviews together on M

thank you mucho! I can't wait now to get I and II... wonder why i waited this long to read his books. I love his interviews on YouTube. Recently read "1966" and it nudged me towards posting this question. That and finally untangling the compilations time-sequences of all the Stones 'till mid-70s output. I love winter.

Sorry if i sounded terse in my post. but i really did just blast it out in the middle of the night to avoid my looming deadline. I have total respect for this place... I've learned SO much here. I'm surprised so many of you are sure its not a Tele. Is it that exact tone in the studio film? I don't own the DVD so will check on-line. I have seen it at midnight shows in the 70

ok, i'm on a deadline, but, read this whole 7 page thread. And must reply to this um, almost 5 years dead thread. #1 It's obviously a Tele. I don't care if its LPC in the film. (someone mentioned Page, Stairway... its cause he used a Tele on Stairway.) #2 capos affect tone when used up higher, at least with me when i want it to. Mostly when bending. I can dig in harder with

So this 1973 Les Paul was only used live? Any documented studio dates with it? What is its history after the tour? On the ThroBak site they call it the Taylor/Richards burst... so apparently its not the early one sold by Keith to Mick. But since Keith was photographed using it, it can get by being called a "MT/KR burst" as well. Seems the '69-72 pickups would be the guitar

Berlin was AMAZING. Good live music just SENDS you... i saw him the first time about 40 years years ago during Rust Never Sleeps Tour. Man, he is still just as intense. Great singing, playing and attitude! Neil is incredibly life-affirming & i soo needed that evening of rock magic. Great band.

Thanks so much for your feedback on this. I have not been able to find a lot of info on-line about LPC habits. Interesting you bring up the frequency filter thing as i use an L6S with Bill Lawrence's nice use of only a 180 degree OOP (position 3 on the chicken head.) Also the Satanic Box... i have grabbed some of those tones for my own paintings. I have only known this Set for a couple years

ya i see the toggle position Up in almost all the pics i see from the old days. Were all of his LPCs wired the the same though? in 60s & early70s? Mathijs, do you still think a LPC was used on Rambler? From yr post a long time ago concerning that you said "phasing"... did you mean tape manipulated in the recording or, maybe some sort of cancelling from the middle pickups mag bei

Hiza, Anyone know if Keith's forward toggle position was neck, or neck and middle pickups? Read LPCs in general were standard forward/neck... but some weren't. i know Keith had 4 of them. thanks, Berlinjive

being 57, I've heard the Doors music since they came out. Big with my older brothers and sisters and a big chunk of my party music '70's.... when it came out the O.Stone movie was/is the only film I've ever got up and walked out of. Having a bit of time lately i did some research of my own. Going past the album material was amazing. Some themes are repetitive but I'

wow just google imaged and your right! Ronnie on a Tele bass. I did see one shot of him many years ago in a record shop and he had a P... Any photos of the red P? God i want to get the RSGB book. “Ask Keith” FB things" as in Facebook? a one or two pickup model Senator? thanks for the info people. anymore?

Was he a Precision user? Sounds like it to me & obviously there is the Circus performance. Anywhere anyone talks about having "Keith's bass" when they loaded in for recording? Wonder if there was a single one in the 60's-70's he and Brian-MT would have on hand. ... not sure why it matters but Woody used a P-bass with Rod, makes it a bit more Keith-y. Anyone?

Ok, i dont own any of the gear books... did they favor any sort of Acoustic piano? I would imagine Uprights figure prominently. Would be happy if any players of the 88's could run down some song/piano examples for me? Or any "pattern of use" would be interesting... cheers, berlinjive

Quotestonehearted Who said he has "rejoined"? He has been billed on this 50th etc. tour as a "special guest", which won't be permanent. ya i thought about the heading for a split second when posting but hey, went with the spiritual meaning, you know? I hope this turns into a long thread, man, because Taylor-era Stones is the bomb. I was a young teen then and not o

love that tune... now i can really hear the Carly Simon vibe now that i read the above post. Its an easy chord song but the sentiment and lyrical part is not an easy thing to catch. The formula is really is not unlike songs in the C.Simon canon.

Mick has always been about the $ and for this reason he has never been my favorite Stone. Not extremely odd how his girlfriend tops herself off because her business failed. And the High Society backlash of losing face. By all accounts she was not an un-together person. So it seems the business literally killed her. At their level, how much $ does one really need? Its about the game. Mick will nev

Was before Pierre's time but does he know which of the Dan Armstrong Rock Treble (single coil) and Rock Sustain (Humbucker) pickups Keith preferred for live/studio with the clear ADA6? Before he stopped using them? Also how Keith thinks the re-issue stackes up against the originals... Many of the action photos from the era are either not angled right or his hand is covereing the pickup.
