I alluded to it among the long posts on the previous page, but the Sunday interview schedule includes a discussion of "Rolling Stones cover Louisiana Blues/R&B," which is rather suggestive, though it could of course be looking back much further than several days prior. My guess is that there will be some sort of nod to the setting, but that it will otherwise be a fairly standard

I omitted that one because it's a little out of the way, but agree it does sound cool. Still a bunch of stuff to be announced for that day among others, including at the Louisiana Music Factory, a great record store.

After Hours and Days Off While Jazzfest is about the Fairgrounds first and last, it isn’t only about the Fairgrounds. You shouldn’t miss at least a little if not a lot of the nighttime proceedings around town at clubs like Preservation Hall, where the Midnight Preserves shows are sold out but reservations for earlier shows haven’t opened yet (Snug Harbor, an upscale destination for jazz heads, h

Oh yeah, the Food It isn’t music, and most of it isn’t health food, but it’s still an essential part of Jazzfest, a cultural festival that extends beyond both into visual arts and crafts and assorted musical and non-musical presentations in the folklife village as well. Food Area 1 The best stuff is here, between the Jazz & Heritage Stage and Economy Hall. Unless you don’t eat por

Medium Stages/Tents Blues Tent For blues, blues-rock, and assorted local/regional variations, like the rock-heavier side of New Orleans funk (The Meters and the like) and swamp-pop from Cajun Country, it hosts both big names and little-known ones that may impress you too. A seated tent on a concrete section of the track beyond the dirt/grass infield, though bigger and/or better acts will get

Festival Map - Here’s a breakdown of all of the different stages and who I recommend seeing at them during the second weekend… The Big Stages Festival Stage For the biggest acts and some smaller ones that the festival chooses to highlight for various reasons - respect for elders, promotion for youngsters, and likelihood of starting a universally-appealing party, etc., though they aren

Quotedaspyknows Quotesnoopy2 Slightly confused, when it says my ticket for Stones Thursday is only good for that event does anyone know if that means “Stones only” or I can enter for the entire day? Thx Good for entire day. Don't miss Samantha Fish. She's worth seeing, but overrated imo, especially as she's strayed further from her blues roots.

Camping out at the main stage on Thursday makes more sense the more you'll be sticking around for the rest of the festival, but I'd really urge first-timers especially to try to sample as much as they can from different stages (and food purveyors). Totally agreed on Steel Pulse over Foo Fighters, but I'd add Stefon Harris in the Jazz Tent to that mix, among other options - some

The grids are live. On May 2, I would try to hit all of the following (* = don't miss), sampling at least briefly from different stages, in rough order before heading to the main stage for Dumpstaphunk* and the Stones... Maybe some Darcy Malone at Gentilly on the way in (or, depending on your entrance after...) a little of the Mardi Gras indians at the Jazz & Heritage stage B

It appears that Hozier, though top-billed, is sub-headlining Friday, likely on the Gentilly Stage while the Foos are on the main one, as Greta van Fleet should be Saturday. So the second-weekend headliners seem to be: Thursday - The Rolling Stones Friday - Foo Fighters Saturday - Neil Young & Crazy Horse Sunday - Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue Bonnie Raitt is playing Sunday, bu

Day-by-day lineups still to come, but looks like I was right about Hozier among other second-weekenders, though not Willie. Some of the other headliners and subs are more of a surprise, but I easily could have added mention of Jon Batiste - who seemed too obvious to mention along with smaller names like Samantha Fish - the Beach Boys, and the Allman Betts Band, with which Chuck could sit in.

The Foo Fighters are a good bet to headline the day after the Stones. Willie Nelson also a decent bet for the second weekend, perhaps late afternoon on Sunday, traditionally closed by Trombone Shorty in the former Neville Brothers slot. Ivan Neville's band Dumpstaphunk will probably precede the Stones on Thursday. Some second Saturday headliner possibilities include Hozier, Billy Strings, an

As I said... QuoteDeanGoodman So much for that (as expected). Well, at least the Gen Xers get a bit of nostalgia in the form of a No Doubt reunion. (They were great openers for the Stones.) Of no interest to this Gen Xer, but in addition to having some continuing tabloid-related profile with younger generations, they're also locals in some sense, like Saturday second-liners Sublime a

QuoteFeelslikeaGhost QuoteDeanGoodman Quoteartedm rumor that coachella's three headliners might be: Lana Del Rey, Tyler, The Creator, Doja Cat "There was also talk of possible top slots for The Rolling Stones" A quick survey of recent headliners will indicate that Coachella isn't for Gen X or Millennial boppers anymore (not to mention the really oldsters) . . .

I've been tipped that some have taken my words here some weeks or months back as an indication that the Stones were playing Coachella, and run way too far in the wrong direction with a similar sort of ball as they have mistaken in the past. As I thought was clear at the time, Coachella was NOT the festival to which I was referring. I'm not going to name the other festival from the s

QuoteGasLightStreet Some shows go until sun up during Jazz Fest. No Rolling Stone will be up that long if they indeed visit/sit in. Tips, the Maple Leaf... in the past, anyway, have been venues they've attended. I've had another venue in mind, smaller than the Superdome or UNO, but larger than any mentioned yet. We'll see what gets announced down the line.
