I wonder what the Mobile's first recording was. I also wonder what its last recording with the band was. It might've been one of the Tattoo You tracks, or maybe the '82 European Tour.

QuoteDoomandGloomI'm guessing that Exile was recorded on 1 inch 16 track but someone here will know for sure. It was 2 inch 16 track. QuoteDoomandGloomI'm not at all certain what happens today in high end studios but I do remember the mixes I worked on for "Dirty Work" were mixed to 30 IPS 1/2 inch... So you can confirm that Dirty Work was an all-analog recording? And was D

QuotekowalskiI doubt they would use those SACD as they were made by Universal Japan for Japan market only. They sound spectacular but they lack a proper mastering IMO. From what I understand they're merely a flat transfer from the original tapes. Most albums are better off without any mastering moves, although there are exceptions.

If your suggestion was indeed the reason they played that dreadful song (which I highly doubt), it must've been because Chuck Leavell reads this board.

We don't know the details yet, but we do know that the regular (i.e. 50 track) version is about to be released as a Blu-Ray Audio disc, potentially offering an improvement in sound quality over the 3CD version.

QuotetreaclefingersOnly 9 GBPs after they do the discount! Discount? If you live outside the EU, they might subtract the VAT, but that's not a discount. QuoteIrixThe tracks on Blu-ray should be all 96 kHz / 24 bit. What makes you think that? Why couldn't they be 192 kHz, for instance?

I didn't like the idea of a 1982 show at first, but it's actually pretty good. Only The Brussels Affair and LA Friday top it, in my opinion.

I changed my mind and bought it anyway. It's not so expensive on amazon.co.uk, so I decided to take the risk.

I bought my copy from amazon.de (ultra-cheap super deluxe), which I guess counts towards the German charts, so in a way I feel like the album reached #1 in "my" country...

Al Kooper claims that Mick Jagger plays acoustic on You Can't Always Get What You Want, so that would mean there are three guitar players on the album.

I don't think I'll be buying this. If it's the same mastering but in higher resolution there won't be much of an audible improvement, if any. I'll spend the money I save on completing my SHM-SACD collection instead (six down, six to go).

Nothing, really. Certainly not the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, which I hate. It was just the first thing that I could think of when I had to come up with a nickname way back when...

QuoteStonesTodnot only that - but he's a better singer than jagger these days. yeah, i said that. That's utter bullshit. Unlike his guitar playing, which was actually pretty decent in the 60s when he wanted it to be, his singing has always been worthless and continues to be so.

QuoteErik_SnowScorpio box is lossy, and very compressed. The source Scorpio used is the Swingin Pig version. Okay, that's probably a better choice then. I think I might load both versions (official and bootleg) in an editor to prove that (for 4 out of 5 tracks) they are sourced from the same digital transfer. Clearly, they either didn't bother to go back to the master tapes or they just

1982 doesn't make any sense... It's far too close to 1981.

QuotekowalskiWasn't Steel Wheels their first ever digitally recorded album? Yes, although some later albums were apparently analog again... QuotekowalskiHence the change in sound from that album onwards. I think the sound of Steel Wheels is in many ways pretty close to that of Dirty Work, especially the drums (although it isn't nearly as bad). Later albums don't really have that s

I love this song! It's also one of the best recorded songs of all time. Of course the rest of the album also sounds great. It's a shame they lost so much sound quality when they lost Keith Harwood, never to really find it back...

QuoteZantiMisfitIt makes no sense. This could have been a really good career retrospective for the "newbie." It just makes it less than perfect...oh, well...you can't always, etc. ... Or you could use it as an example of the great songs they did not include... Give it a positive spin!

QuoteDandelionPowdermanThere is some fvck ups with the credits. The credits are correct, just vague. Ronnie is listed as playing a solo without mentioning the instrument he plays it on.

QuoteRolling Hansiell 80 songs sound absolutely great. Especially the bonus CD and the vinyl EP. Had those recordings on bootlegs, but I never ever before heard them in such great soundquality. Try the "Genuine Black Box" (Scorpio) for equal / superior (Bright Lights Big City) sounding versions of the IBC tracks.
