I saw the Beach Boys in '72, '73, and '74 (Blondie was with them the first two) -- these were some of the most amazing live show I ever saw, just unbelievable energy and musicianship. Anyway, in '72, they did "Jumping Jack Flash"! Mike was very campy but it really went over as I recall.

Blondie doesn't sing lead on the studio version, but I'm sure he's in there. And I imagine he contributes to the rocking opening on the '73 live version. My understanding is that the original lyrics were about Brian's "masseuse" (happy ending style) and some members of the band weren't too thrilled about that and tweaked the lyrics.

Quoteshadooby Go ahead and bite the big apple....don't mind those maggots....hells' kitchen is a DMZ, I ain't ever going back now...absolutely zero law and order, thanks to NoBallsio! By the way, where's Snake Plissken when you need him? All NYC has been a DMZ -- even in relatively sedate Bay Ridge Brooklyn we have (very loud) fireworks going off throughout the night. Rode

Quotetimmyj3 I have boycotted anything to do with the "sort of, not really rock and roll HOF" I get to Cleveland at least once a year on business but always decline any sort of overture to go there. My beef is overlooking seminole bands of the 60's like Paul Revere and the Raiders and Hermans Hermits (and others). No, they are not the Stones or Led Zep but these type of bands

The Spoonful and the Rascals for me were the two great, creative bands that thrived in the 60s but couldn't make the jump in popularity when things got wilder and heavier. I'd say the Spoonful definitely had influence as well as hits -- there was a "jug band" mentality that permeated a lot of the early San Francisco bands that seems to be in a direct line. Flamin' Groovi

Nils makes it clear he was not seriously considered but that Keith was very gracious with him. I like his earlier work a lot -- funny how he went from Springsteen's competition to working for him. We're not all Type A I guess. But he is a hell of a guitar player/musician and seems to be a really good, down to earth person. Yep, not a Stones axe man!

One good thing -- not hearing Bruce pulled a "you know who I am?" tantrum.

I was taken aback at first but it seems Springsteen was simply being friendly with some fans and took a shot of tequila as a gesture. Perhaps some Trumpet bad blood who knows. But he's off the hook as far as I'm concerned. Still not happy about the as though...maybe it's karma....

I'm sure Zappa was bright but not as bright as he promoted himself as. He was talented but not to the point where the reams of product seem justified. And weird like a fox. Peaches in Regalia Willie the Pimp A lot of Apostrophe And I'm good. And I like that the Mothers broke into the pipe organ at Royal Alpert Hall (I think) to play Louie Louie.

Quotenoughties It seems we tend to forget that the two guys in the movie were financing their trip by smuggling dope from Mexico to the US. Instead, the focal moral point becomes the scene in the end where one of the rednecks in the lorry fires his gun at one of the bikers and shoots him dead. If there's a "focal moral point" it's when "Captain America" tells Billy

Association give one of the better tight professional performances. Yeah the schtick is dated and dumb but the harmonies are outstanding. The Flag are tops despite bv mics being off! Also enjoy the Airplane, Janis, the Who, Jimi but they all got better. Lots of the others just don't have their chops yet. But Otis with Booker T and the MGs et al...men among children.

Was viewing some old Shindig clips the other day -- there was a period '64-'65 where they were ubiquitous on all those kind of programs. I was a kid but that time imprinted upon me. Included the Stones too! And RIP of course....

I see the Stones/AC DC connection is they both understand the "Roll" that goes with the Rock. The Stones most certainly took the music to grander and more diverse places but the boys from Australia did a lot in a narrower vision and that isn't a bad thing at all.

QuoteCousinC Sorry. But to me most of the rock stars especially from that era who'd died late 60s/ early 70's were already at or even past their peak. Brian,Janis Joplin,Jimi Hendrix,J.Morrison . . For different reasons I wouldn't see a long great career for them in their later years. And yeah, that even goes for Hendrix. I sure disagree. Their final "proper"

ery big BOC fan here. Have you listened to this new one? I'm definitely a "first three "Black and White" guy though also love lots of stuff up to "Heaven Forbid" and have seen them live in many incarnations. Last time was about five years ago and they were still the Amazing Blue Oyster Cult. Buck Dharma is the great overlooked guitar player. Stones connection

Saw this flick the drive in a couple of times. It was a bit of a party there and we were distracted but I remember being fascinated by this flick. Though I never figured out why the "hero" was racing across the country. Much less why a black DJ was talking to him through the radio. Maybe I'll go look up the plot line on Wikipedia.

I still watch dvd's -- I can get a fair lot from the Brooklyn Public Library system and occasionally buy some off eBay for a couple of bucks. Have digital rabbit ears on my TV -- right now watching a PBS special on Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band" LP. Quite good. I don't have the time to have all that streaming dumped into my apartment.
