I'm a fan of all eras of the J. Geils Band (that include Wolf), even the newwave early 80s (probably because that was my first exposure to the band). But after dabling in that for a bit I agreed with Wolf that it was time to get back to their roots. What a shame they threw him out over it and put out that abomination, effectively killing off the band in its height of popularity. Then, out of

David Gilmour has no desire to go on the road and play The Wall for two years (he was actually offered and turned it down)... Remember, Gilmour also turned down $100-200M for a Pink Floyd tour after the LIVE 8 reunion (the other guys were up for it), so he's not about to be a hired gun for a Waters tour of The Wall, which is largely a Waters album to begin with. Gilmour has made it clear he&

Mick Jagger By Claudine Zap, Yahoo! Sat, May 12, 2012, 2:00 am PDT Here’s a way to end with a bang: The season finale for the sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” will be hosted by Rolling Stones frontman and rock icon Mick Jagger on May 19. The legendary band, which will also be the musical guest, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. But don't count Richards ou

I'm guessing we see a GHS 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition next year. There are several good outtakes from this era. I believe and expanded Sticky Fingers would be difficlut to license due to shared ownership with ABKCO. Perhaps that's not an issue now that Universal has the entire catelog under its unbrella.

Here's a live version (audio only) of "Down in Flames" from the first tour in 1978. It was going to be on the 2nd album, but the only part of this song that survived (until now) was the intro, which became the into to "You're No Good." The video uses an unrelated 1978 promo video.

Quotetkl7 A little pricey, but has gotten generally positive reviews: I just got "The Singles+10" from them for the exact reason of getting "Relay" as a remastered, stand alone, single on CD. On the 90's box set it's cross-faded with "Join Together."

Is there a download of Fast Talking available? This song is just amazing and I don't know how I missed it all of these years. It's definitely a GHS session to my ears. EDIT: The Fast Talking CD posted above looks interesting. It appears I've missed a few songs from my favorite era...

A great album that Dave Marsh gave one star and called the end of the Stones. It's probably one of the ones I listen to the most. I also enjoy other session material such as: Criss Cross , Separately , Tops , Waiting on a Friend , Through the Lonely Nights . And the alternate take of Dancing with Mr. D. that has that Mick Taylor solo is wicked. Unfortunately, I've yet to find a bootleg

Both Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones did some session work with Donovan pre-Zep. Hurdy Gudry Man, recorded in April 1968, actually had Page, Jones and Bonham on it a few months before the first Zep sessions.

Quotefrankotero After reading all the negativity about this release I have to wonder who is going to buy it. After all we're probably a very big part of the Rolling Stones consumer community. Maybe they're putting this out as a feeler? Got to say after buying several re-releases I've also reached the end of my rope and refuse to buy this boxset. Somebody in the Stones camp needs to

Quoteskipstone Why not...just do...a box set...with less discs? Goddamn. Well, the whole point is to recreate the original singles in their original sleeves. If they just threw all these songs into a box set it would lose a lot of its collectors appeal and probably move way less volume, even at a lesser price.

You can't go wrong starting with Jailbreak since it has both the title song and The Boys Are Back in Town and is their biggest seller. If you enjoy that album try Fighting, Johnny the Fox, Bad Reputation or one of the compilations such as Dedication.

I always liked the rawer outtake version that's been floating around with the Mick Taylor guitar solo that was cut. Unfortunately, I've never heard a version that doesn't have audio dropouts late in the solo.

Kind of ironic that you're welcoming Ronnie to the band and chose a song he didn't play on. Btw, my favorite two cuts are Slave and Worried About You... QuoteMax'sKansasCity Does B&B own the "record" for fewest songs on an album.... of all time ... I like that is welcomed the great Ronnie Wood into the band ...HELLO RONNIE!! my fav track...

QuoteHelterSkelter Isn't THINK I'M GOING MAD the B-side of the SHE WAS HOT single? Like Skip said probably recorded before UNDERCOVER during the ER sessions.... (I have the single but man all my vinyl is so deep in storage you need oxygen masks and high powered lights to even get close....) The bootlegged version is from the EM outtakes. The B-side is a touched-up version which imho i

Quoteskipstone Is the Think I'm Going Mad version on Static In The Attic the same as the B-side? This would have made Emotional Rescue a slightly stronger album. No. This is the original ER outtake, not the touched up b-side. I prefer this version to the single release. ER could have been a completely different album with the outtakes I've heard (Claudine, Think I'm Going Mad, We

This is my favorite Stones b-side. I guess it's a GHS outtake that didn't surface until a year later on the flip side of IORR. Another great one that should have been on Rarities is "Think I'm Going Mad." I actually prefer the ER outtake to the touched-up version that appeared four years later on the flip side of "She Was Hot."

jamesfdouglas was talking about ADTL not being included on the bonus disc. Although, I disagree about Soul Survivor. I'm glad it's there as it's never been booted as far as I know. Keith's adlibbing is hilarious and it's a different mix with the horns more upfront, which is interesting to hear. The bonus disc is great, I just wish they would have included more of the alte

It's a masterpiece, one of my favorites, and has been neglected in the US for the entire CD era. I have the Japanese mini-album version from a few years ago and sold off that ancient MoFI CD from the 80's. I'm hoping that American Fidelity will take a crack at it as they recently did a great version of Smoker.

I've read rumors here that GHS and SG might get the Deluxe treatment if Exile does well. Then the article came out in Billboard saying that SF will probably happen next year for the 40th anniversary. They also mention UMG has a five-year plan for the Stones, with two projects a year. The word is the other project for this year will be a vinyl box of all the UMG remasters. Universal is
