What I miss the most is Charlie's light, swiinging touch. Steve Jordan is a little too "heavy" on this track for me. Charlie also had this knack to almost never repeat a bit within a song. While I love a high-hat-hit-and-close, for example, which Steve has in here, Charlie would dole those out so sparingly. Not sure why this jumped out at me, but perhaps a brief diversion fro

Heard a cleaner version -- thank you Patrick B! -- and I was able to enjoy the instrumental interplay so much more than my first listens. While the song is not going to top any Greatest Hits track listing, it's a hoot to hear these guys still doing what they do. Decades ago (like 1981, Ha!) when the "last tour" questions started becoming ubiquitous, Keith would often say some

As a Song: It's a blues stomp, for sure. Enjoyable enough. Feels like a fast version of something that would end up as a B-Side of a single - a la Fancy Man Blues or Cook Cook Blues from the Steel Wheels days. I know it's surely a low quality rip, but what I dislike about this -- and so much of modern recordings --is that there is no room for anything to breathe. One of the beauties

QuoteWhale 2. why is his 1981 solo album so hard to get? was there never a reprint? Because it's terrible. A bunch of mediocre riffs in search of a song. My favorite line from the AMG review says, 'Wind Howlin' Through' asks if the listener can hear that, but little more." Gimme Some Neck is 10,000 times better, even with the brittle production. Yet another way in which the Grateful Dead machine far exceeds our favorite band. Quarterly (imagine that!) releases of previously unreleased live material, accompanied by a video of the loquacious and wandering Dave Lemieux, and, for the most part, monthly emails. I too am disappointed by the Stones' Halloween T-shirts, Father's Day gift collections, cleverly named rum offerings etc

Similarly, the one "challenge" of Spotify of not finding one release is outweighed by access to everything else. I've listened to and enjoyed uncountable music that I never would have risked buying in its physical form back in the day. TeaAtThree

I've been thinking about this recently for a number of reasons. My wife and I are both book people, and we have over 2,500 books in our bookshelves and more in the garage. I have 1500 CDs and maybe 600 vinyl records. Both my parents died within the last two years, and we sold off all their books for under $100. I bought a 2022 Volvo with no CD player and don't have a CD player or tur

It's the other direction but John Philips Pay Pack and Follow is a late 70s record with a bunch of the Stones on it. Some of it sounds like it could be on Black and Blue. T@3

You sure couldn't put Mick's helmet-head up front, and Charlie is looking rather ghoulish (and rail thin). And Bill is still sporting the same shirt he wore on the "Si Si Je Suis un Rock Star single."

My first show was '81, and on many tours I caught shows early in the tour on the East Coast -- 81 (night two), 89 (night four) and 94 (first night) especially. I would say that the 81 tour offered the most significant EVOLUTION of the performance quality of any tour since. Those early shows were rough -- though energetic -- and by the time they got to Hampton they were absolutely smoking,

That was an amazing read. The author had to really do a deep dive and clearly has knowledge of the band's catalog and history. The only clunker I saw what that they have played "Sway" live, but I will certainly forgive that since the liner notes of Rarities had numerous mis-attributions. How embarrassing was that? Thanks for sharing! T@3

QuoteGasLightStreet Holy crap, it's a good thing they left Gimme Shelter at rehearsals. That was awful. Play With Fire is awesome! It's really bad but it's killer! Ha ha - Ian didn't know what key Tumbling Dice was in! I like the the Gimme Shelter. The keyboard riff kinda works, and Ronnie's lead mixes the 73 style lead with the 78 blistering speed. T@3

Underrated from the early decades: BETWEEN THE BUTTONS -- So unlike anything else in the catalog. Very British of the time, with some stomping rockers like Miss Amanda Jones, All Sold Out, and My Obsession. AND the British version Has Back Street Girl and Please Go Home. Wow! GOATS HEAD SOUP -- though as many have pointed out, it seems to be rising over time. It has a very consistent feel a

Instead, you hung in there, maintained the site the way we all comfortably have known it all these years, and carried us through one more North American Tour.
