Thebarton Oval, Adelaide, Australia SA 23rd October

Thirty-four years ago, last Friday I attended this gig, which was the 6th & final Mick Jagger Sydney 1988 show, audiowhore tells me he also was at this show as a 14-year-old accompanied by his father.
I went with my mate KN, as I did the 1st & 2nd concerts. I also saw the 2nd of October show, but only taped two shows, the first 27th September 1988 is already on DIME, see here……………………

And this one. I won’t describe here Jagger’s stage design, his band, the 1988 Australian tour & events leading up to that show as they’re covered in the above torrent.
KN cassette recorder at the 27th September 1988 concert died ¾ of the way through the show, for this show we borrowed another cassette recorder to make this recording, which is nearly complete except for the start of two songs,
the circumstances why this occurred are explained below.

Our seats at this show were nearer to the front than the previous shows, as we did at those shows when the lights dimmed we bolted from our seats to get closer to the stage, this night we achieved getting closer to the stage than before,
standing in the centre aisle between the first rows of seats, it was an incredibly tight squeeze, could hardly move. Unfortunately, we ended up standing next to Justin & his mixed sex posse of late teens /early 20’s
moronic vocal mates, more about them further down. BTW we know his name as a female calls him Justin before Party Doll gets underway.

Micks final Sydney concert kicked off differently than the previous Sydney shows, shortly before Mick came on a well-known um local celebrity Richard Wilkins’s (aka Dickie) strolled onto the stage, he’s an Australian
TV host / presenter who also at that time conducted celebrity interviews for MTV Australia, one of his MTV Jagger 1988 Sydney interviews is a bonus track on the Mick Jagger 27th September 1988 torrent linked above.
From centre stage Dickie treated us to a spoken introduction & as we hadn’t yet turned the cassette on I’ll describe what he had to say.

Richards introduction served two reasons, first up he told the audience that ushers were about to be distributing to us red noses (with a string attached so one could wear it over one’s real nose) telling us they’re
left over noses from Red Nose Day that was held for the first time here in February 1988. I’m under the impression that Red Nose Day is held internationally, but if one is unfamiliar with Red Nose Day it’s held once a year,
the money raised from selling red noses goes towards children’s charities including research into SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Dickie then went on to say that we were to put on the plastic noses when we heard the opening bars of Satisfaction, to make sure we knew the song he performed a thankfully brief rendition of the Satisfaction riff,
he goes on to say that Mick is totally unaware of this jolly jape. 34 years on I cannot remember if I did put on my red nose, probably not as I guess I was too busy looking to see if others did so.

The 2nd reason was Richard telling us that we were the first people to hear about the upcoming Mick Jagger TV Special "Deep Down Under" which was going to be shown on the Channel 9 network next Saturday the 29th October.
This TV special had been filmed in Melbourne on the 16th & 18th October. Many are unaware that one of the earlier Sydney Jagger concerts was also filmed. The head honcho at CH 9 deemed that it was not fit to screen
as Mick had a T-Shirt on the front as a picture of a South Pacific male fertility symbol with a huge erect penis. Mick is pictured wearing this T-shirt on the front cover artwork.

Richard then encouraged us to welcome Mick when he arrived on stage with a Mexican wave, going as far to describe to us unless we didn’t know how the wave is to be performed. Dickie then toddled offstage to the sounds
of the Sex Pistols "Anarchy In The UK " which strangely was also the last song played over the PA before the Stones came on at the Stones Wembley 1999 gigs I saw, BTW I taped the 2nd night.
Could this song be a guilty pleasure of Mick’s? As soon as that song finished the Jagger instrumental "Deep Down Under" started pumping out of the speakers.

Once again KN & myself shared taping duties, started recording seconds before the “Deep Down Under” instrumental got underway, when the sound of wind blowing came over the PA accompanied by a dry ice cloud enveloping the stage
is when we first heard Justin’s posse inane comments, seeing the dry ice cloud one lets loose with “Arrr they’re gonna kills us”, as if the cloud was as evil as the fog in the horror movie of the same name. Another is heard
to say mustard gas! Around the same time, we are treated by a male member of his group screaming like a teenage schoolgirl. KN also forgets we are taping as it is he who asks Justin if he’s been before, no he’s tells KN
who replies we’ve been twice but never down here near the front.

In “Miss You” a female can be heard saying “Sorry, excuse me I’m sorry, no sorry”, she was jumping up & down flaling her hands around (she reminded me of one of those huge blow up figures blowing around outside carsale yards)
& clocked the bloke next to her in the head, it’s him she’s offering an apology to. At the start of “Ruby Tuesday” Justin himself pipes up that he feels like a can of beer, suggesting to his friend that they could curl up
under the very last seat to do this (I guess so they aren’t busted drinking by in front of us security), then to my surprise he then pulls out some pot informing his friend that they are what are called “cones”!

Tonight, two different songs are in the set that I hadn’t heard at previous shows, two old favourites “Get Off Of My Cloud” & “Little Red Rooster. It’s in the latter number that Justin’s scream like a schoolgirl mate becomes a deadset arsehole,
from the start of the tune he starts yelling & screaming like a big sheila. When Mick gets to the lines “The dogs begin to bark & hounds begin to howl” the cretin subjects us to his interpretation of dogs barking & hounds howling.
This prize clown pissed off many around him, especially KN who is the one heard a number of times telling him to shut up plus calls him a @#$%& idiot but it falls on deaf ears maybe the screamer has deafened himself.
He was lucky as after the gig KN told me he was extremely close to decking the guy. Thankfully from here on him here's not as vocal as he had been.

In tonight’s Hendrix cover “Foxy Lady” Jagger adlibbed some new lyrics such as the line “down at the beach” maybe to add a bit of an Australian flavour, he also wants to go down there & eat her. After “Bitch” Jagger left the stage leaving Simon Phillips to bore us to death with his overlong drum solo. I couldn’t stand hearing a Phillips drum solo for the 4th time nor on tape afterwards so as Si started a-pounding I turned the recorder off, also missing is Satriani’s guitar solo.
Knowing that once the solos were over Mick would be back on stage we’d turn it back on, not realizing that crowd movement around us had pulled the hand-held mic lead out of the cassette recorder
therefore missing the start of the upcoming song until one of us noticed it. Such a shame because that song was Gimme Shelter.

When the solo’s finished the lights of the auditorium were turned off. The intro to "Gimme Shelter" starts, when it was time for the first line of lyrics to be sang they came from somewhere behind us. Mick was up a level
in the middle section singing from one of the entry / exit walkways, surrounded by security, eventually making his way back down to the floor high-fiving some lucky audience’s members as he passed them then back up onto the stage.
IMHO these Stone-less 1988 renditions of "Gimme Shelter" were up to this point some of the best Taylor-less versions I’d heard. The beginning of “Start Me Up” is also missing thanks to one of the posse performing some idiot dancing
which pulled out the lead, this happens a 2nd time during the audience encore break. There's the odd bump or two in there when I was bumped by fellow concert goers.

I thought with this being Jagger’s final Sydney show that we might get two encores with “Sympathy For The Devil” before “Satisfaction” as it was at the first two shows I saw but it wasn’t to be.
To sum up although there is very noticeable chit chat plus the schoolgirl male screamer which is annoying so for the listener hopefully it doesn’t spoil what is still an enjoyable show. IMHO sound wise this is one of the best
Jagger 1988 Australian tour recordings. I've traded this show in the distant past but this version surpasses all that came before.

In my archives I’ve a complete alternate recording of this show that includes Dickies pre-show speech but also Simon Phillips & Joe Satriani’s solos.
Hopefully sometime in the future this will make it to DIME.

Thanks, as always to audiowhore.
Enjoy,
Waz

Sorry to say it will be impossible by me: the only MKV file is more of 14Gb: impossible to send by WT and I don't know how to convert it and/or separate it as different files!

The Rolling Stones - 'Bridges To Gothenburg' Live Ullevi, Gothenburg, Sweden 1998.07.31 #AMT 2nd Gen MKV/Flac Audio

This is a better bitrate and quality than any other versions posted previously and is next to the 'master' Explanation.... two cams mixed down to a 'master' VHS this copy is from that 'master' but it still makes it 2nd gen.
Actually better picture quality, but same audio quality on all other videos/DVDs, just a bit louder.
As with all other versions, the picture and sound are not in sync!!
