With the Rolling Stones on the road and interest in their live recordings piqued, it seemed a good time to release this previously uncirculated source recording for the Stones' second LA show in 1975, which also happens to be the one Mike Millard did not record.

Stones '75 aficionado LetItBleed tells us there were previously two extant recordings of this show. A handful of songs, including "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" circulate and are sourced from old vinyl bootlegs. A complete but poor and barely listenable audience recording also circulates from a tape source and can be found on the VGP Japanese bootleg CD 1975 Nervous Breakdown.

LetItBleed says, "This source recording has definitely not been in wide circulation before and it is a huge upgrade compared to what we had. There is no comparison really to the distant and muffled Japanese bootleg source which sounds way inferior. Well balanced, all instruments are clear, not much crowd interference and close to the stage. Great band performance, too. I checked some markers for this date and compared against the two alternate sources--this is definitely July 10. The short improv jam before "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" is the definitive indicator for this date."

EdF recorded all five of the Stones' shows at the The Forum in 1975 and got remarkably consistent results. To be sure he wasn't recording with Millard-quality gear, but his tapes capture the atmosphere of the occasion quite appealingly and offer good, perhaps even very good sound for the era and equipment.

His recorder was an inexpensive portable (believed to be a Panasonic) that Ed recalls ran on six AA batteries, likely giving it long battery life and perhaps even improved performance compared to most cheap decks. He paired the recorder with what he calls a cheap Radio Shack microphone that he would stick to the armrest of his seat with tape. The results have little immediate-vicinity audience noise, relatively up-close sound, and while not as sharp or clear as Millard's efforts, are potent just the same. Ed was also good about his tape flips and didn't miss much of the show.

The appeal of Night Two is not only how elusive a good recording of it proven to be until now, but the show itself. Adds Let it Bleed: "This is an excellent band performance. Some of the raggedness typical of this tour is apparent, but here it makes perfect sense. The set is well-paced, full of energy throughout and Keith is sharp and focused. "Happy" and "Tumbling Dice" groove along nicely and the soloing during "Star Star" and "Fingerprint File" is fluid, always good signs in 1975.

In my humble opinion, this performance of "It´s Only Rock n´Roll" is one of the best they have ever played, in a sleazy and dirty kind of way. Many have tried to match that style, but only the Stones can truly deliver with Keith playing razor-sharp licks, Charlie laying down a perfect groove and Mick´s growl, which some find distracting on this tour in particular, but totally fits here. It is amazing that the next night was such a lackluster, train wreck of a performance (officially released, unfortunately), or maybe not, hearing that they are really giving it all here. I hope everyone will enjoy listening to this tape as much as I did."

Massive thanks to Ed F for lending us his master tapes. Those old Memorex cassettes are glued into their cases and most squeak like a mofo these days, but they hold up otherwise and with careful restoration, good transfers are possible. LetItBleed provided enormous assistance in comparing Ed's recordings to existing official and unofficial sources, which will help guide future releases. It was a pleasure collaborating with him. Professor Goody was of course on hand as well to adjust the pitch. And mjk5510 handled post-production and encouraged me to get this project into the queue.

We hope you enjoy this new capture of the Stones in Los Angeles, July 10, 1975. There's more where this came from.

Atlanta AUD is in da house now:

Bit distant, but at least there is a recording.
Taper seems to be a nice guy, mentioning Jared from JEMS.
Let's see how I can use it on my MfG.

The Rolling Stones

Set List

01-Street Fighting Man
02-Let's Spend the Night Together
03-19th Nervous Breakdown
04-Tumbling Dice
05-Shattered
06-She's Like A Rainbow
07-You Can't Always Get What You Want
08-Ghost Town

14-Miss You
15-Midnight Rambler
16-Paint It Black
17-Sympathy For the Devil
18-Jumping Jack Flash
19-Gimme Shelter
20-Satisfaction

The concert was originally scheduled in 2020. A friend of mine won tickets off the radio early in January 2020 when the concert was announced. When the promoters postponed the concert in April of 2020, the radio station said they would reach out to him when the concert was rescheduled so he could get his tickets. When the concert was rescheduled in April 2021, my friend reached out to the radio station several times with no results. No one returned his calls or emails. The day before the concert he got an email from the radio station containing a release document that he had to sign for the tickets. Since he had heard nothing for 7 months on these tickets, he had made other plans and was out of town. He got the tickets and gave them to me. Thank you sir!!!!

I had seen the Rolling Stones many times before. I was skeptical about seeing them in a dome. I had seen them in outdoor stadiums before and the sound was pretty good. I saw them in 1997 in the Georgia Dome and the sound had so much echo. It was bad. I have seen a lot of musical acts that played in the old Georgia Dome and the Mercedes Benz Dome before Atlanta Falcons or Atlanta United games. The sound was always had a lot of echo and too much bass. The sound for this concert was quite surprising. You could hear everything.

The crowd was a little noisey, but the sound on the recording is pretty good.

Recorded by Jorje from Section 214 Row 7

Don't sell. Support this great artist. Keep the music alive like Jared Houser

Notes:
My first concert in over 600 days. It was such an epic show. Just really happy to be seeing live music again. What a great thing. Not to mention being able to tape as the rig had been collecting dust for over 1.5 years. I thought this rig was lost in the mail. A good friend was using this rig all summer taping and wouldn't ya know it. FedEx lost the overnight package (as I have been having a lot of packages going missing the last year) and couldn't believe it happened to this package. Thankfully, it was found almost 8 days later so I could use this rig instead of my backup! I was having issues with my IPA so I had to send it in for a repair and had ordered a babynbox in the meantime. HUGE shoutout to Nick for sending the babynbox to my hotel so I could use it for this show. It was amazing. Great build and awesome for stealthing. Also my first time using the A10 and the iPhone app is definitely worth it.

As for the show. First time seeing the Stones. Was supposed to see them last year in Nashville, so I am glad to make this one! Sound in Mercedes Benz is decent at best. Mick is an absolute beast. Running around and having all that energy is just insane for his age.

Hope to get out to more shows in 2022. Missed doing this! Special shout out to everyone I have been in contact with over the last year swapping tapes and helping me with transfers etc. It's been a really rough year for all of us and email/texts/socially distant meet ups were everything.

The Rolling Stones
2021-11-15
Detroit, MI

Support: Ayron Jones (Also recorded)

Master recording from the main floor, rear GA section.

Sure MV88 Mic - iPhone/Motiv-Audio app (24/48) -
ProTools (mastered/EQ/Widen) - SoundForge (Splits, fades, FLAC).

The Stones brought their No Filter 2021 tour to Detroit last night,
It was their 21st time playing here. The sound was pretty good for
a stadium, the performance was great. Charlie was missed, but Steve
Jordan did a great job.

Sound quality is ok/good - I'd rate it a B/b-. I didn't do too much
to it - scooped out some boomy arena-lows, bumped the mid-highs just
a hair, widened and leveled. The first song fades in during the first
verse and there are a couple very brief gaps in a couple songs, but
it is otherwise complete. There is also some talking and singing in
close-proximity from time to time that is distracting, and a few points
where it gets quiet or muffled for a moment, it was a GA section and
people were close and coming and going, it wasn't easy to just have the
mic out and steady without crowd contamination. Keith's guitar takes a
noticeable and alarming (but cool) jump in volume at the beginning of
"Sympathy for the Devil."
