I sure hope those who insist on remastering everything leave the JEMS release from LA alone. Sounds very fine just the way it is.

Yes it sounds fine. I'm hopping for the Guns N Roses tape.

* Power failure lasting about 7 minutes.

This performance, the opening show of the Steel Wheels tour (and first US gig in 8 years), is best known for the power failure in Shattered, apparently due to a blown generator.

Levels on this recording were very low for the first few minutes, rising slowly through Shattered and once again after power was restored. Even in the middle of the show there are louder and quieter bits. These don't sound like the typical issues with a stealth recording. It sounds like there were sound system problems as well.

There is a bootleg titled "Electrical Discharge," source unknown, but definitely not this recording, and a video of the performance is usually somewhere on YouTube. Both have the same low levels issue at the beginning. One wonders how much of this was opening night jitters for the sound system? (To compensate, Electrical Discharge was normalized and compressed to within an inch of its life.)

Continental Drift does not inspire confidence. Stay with it. Things are better by Bitch, although it takes until after power comes back to really sort the sound. There are multiple level adjustments throughout to get the volume more consistent without compressing the hell out of the first few songs or wrecking anything else. The pyrotechnics when Start Me Up kicks in was a pretty loud bang, but also a good thing to peg the levels to.

A tape change in You Can't Always Get What You Want, about 2:30 long, was patched with "Electrical Discharge." Here too, efforts were made to smooth things out, but the two sources are very different from each other. No, I didn't screw it up, Mick Jagger really sings "I went down to the Chelsea drug store, to get my fair share of abuse." See for yourself: [youtu.be]

Huh. That opening show is pretty good. This is where the Stones' first night jitters actually come in handy! This night avoids most of the slick and smooth sound that for me PLAGUED this whole tour.

Hi, Rank Stranger.
The no label release you're talking about seems to be the same as axhl79's upload: same number of tracks, same artwork included, same info:
"Rolling Stones: Sept. 28, 1973-Olympiahalle, Munich early show. -Master
Tape Master>dat>cd-r>Bias Peak Pro 5 (song indexing)>XACT>flac"

Considering drop out in Brown Sugar on a share from Dime, that Falo has posted. I have found that it has a slightly better sound than the other one from axl79. It is for sure the same source, but something must have happened in converting or burning to disc.....or something.
Anyhow i have patched that missing part (drop out) from another source (provided by axl79) so here it is. (Just track 1, "Brown Sugar")

[we.tl]

p.s. i am gonna remaster this gig as soon as i can.....this might take some time since i am working at few new projects at the moment

THE ROLLING STONES
VENUE: Grugahalle, Essen Oct.10th, 1973
TAPER: Rank Stranger
RELEASED: September 27, 2009

Notes: Transfer from master cassette tape. Recorded from the middle of the Grugahalle.
Almost complete show in very good stereo audience quality.
Tape flip between "You Can t Always Get What You Want" and "Midnight Rambler".
Enjoyable recording with a very little amount of noise from the surrounding crowd.

ORIGINAL NOTES:
Here's my recording of this show, this version has not been posted before, I only sent a couple of cassettes around in the seventies.
Recorded from the middle of the Grugahalle with a cheap cassette-recorder, this is the complete show, the only gap occurs between YCAGWYW and MR when the cassette was turned over.
Transfer to digital was done by Watchit, who has uploaded his version on Dime this weekend. He combined my recording with the too few tracks of excellent quality from the vinyl bootleg, the version posted here is a straight transfer of my cassette.
Flac files created with Nero.

CD1:
1. Brown Sugar
2. Gimme Shelter
3. Happy
4. Tumbling Dice
5. Star Star
6. Dancing With Mr.D
7. Angie
8. You Can't Always Get What You Want
9. Midnight Rambler
10. Honky Tonk Women
11. All Down The Line
12. Rip This Joint
13. Jumping Jack Flash
14. Street Fighting Man

Thanks to Rank Stranger for giving me permission to share his recording here at Dime.
