POST: Stones 69 Can anybody date this for me?
Posted by: Deltics ()
Date: January 6, 2008 00:26

My first bootleg, bought in April 1972 for the princely sum of 50p from a friend of my cousin.
It came in a bog standard plain white LP inner sleeve, with a blank white label and no track banding.
It's obviously disc 1 of a double album of an audience recording from the 69 US tour, but can any one tell me which gig?

Side 1
Jumping Jack Flash
Carol
Sympathy For The Devil
Side 2
Stray Cat Blues
Love In Vain
Prodigal Son
You Gotta Move
Under My Thumb

Vinyl rip-WAV-Flac
Cleaned up the best I can!

Stray Cat Blues/Love In Vain/Prodigal Son/You Gotta Move/Under My Thumb-I'm Free(medley)

Midnight Rambler/Live With Me/Little Queenie/Satisfaction/Honky Tonk Women/Street Fighting Man

oh, jewels and binoculars hang from the head of the mule

To me it looks more like Detroit 69, I'm downloading right now to check, but Gigasize is very slow again, so it might take a few hours!

Yes, looks like Detroit:

It's also available on CD:

Yes it is Detroit 69 for sure, I'm just listening to it; you may hear Jagger mumbling "Thank you Detroit" after Carol!

I must have gotten this double album either in summer '70 or '71 on one of our trips to England in London, But mine has red labels with tracklisting and titled "Live From Detroit" plain white cover also.

Anyway after purchasing the album we decided to hitch hike to the beach and headed for Bournemouth, where we got acquainted with a nice girl from Poole and her Swedish girlfriend. The English girl looked at the double lp and asked: "Are they copying the Beatles?" ( "White Album" just in case...).
Now at that time a question like that was regarded as an unfriendly act, to say the least, the conversation pretty much drifted downhill after that!

Many thanks for your input, chaps.
As it happens, I'd already guessed it was from Detroit back in the day, using information gleened from Roy Carrs' "An Illustrated Record" published by New English Library in 1976 which lists "We Never Got It On Till Detroit" in the bootleg section, but this is the first time I've had it confirmed.
I even made a gatefold cover!
Is this the only recording of the gig, or are there any others?
I too would like the rest of it in FLAC!

Having started this thread, I feel it incumbent on me to post Mr. Snow's torrent of the complete gig, so here it is in Flac:

Many thanks to EricSnow.

After all these years I have a stereo version!
Still sounds like it was recorded in a barn, though!
