I need to buy some new discs and I recall seeing some discussions in here before about certain brands producing more wasted discs than others. I am finishing up packs of Dynex DVD+R and and TDK CDr.

What would you guys recommend for my next batch (though I have not had too many problems with these two so far)

HP and TDK are my favourite. I imagine that Sony is pretty good as well. I would stay away from Memorex (from the old audio cassette days I never trusted Memorex tapes). Denon always made excellent blank audio tapes so I figure they may make great blank cd's. Phillips makes great blank cd's as well. Oh well just my two cents....

According to a friend, and according to what I've read, the very best brand of cd-r is Taiyo Yuden. But, you can't buy them in stores; they have to be ordered over the internet. I recently got some from a company in Connecticut called Neato (neato.com). I ordered a 100 pack, for $29.95 (plus shipping, which was a little over $10), and they arrived in 4 days. (I'm in Kansas.) I think Fuji is good, too.

Yes, I've often heard them mentioned in the same breath as Mitsui/MAM (which are hard to find in stores too). Never tried them myself though...

Yep, Taiyo Yuden

For CD-R I use the Mitsui Gold Unbranded 80 minute.

No problem burning to these and they seem to play in everything too, whether it be the car stereo, PC or home stereo.

I never copy a cd on my computer, always use my Tascam cd-recorder

and Fuji CD-R PRO FOR AUDIO, no way to tell from the original!

If I burn a download I use FujiFilm CD-R 700MB 52x Multispeed;

never had any problems!

bout speed burning..? only x 16......is it ok..?

burn wave onto dvd...? would be great..i can do it.but can't play it on my dvd player...

Actually none of those companies actually make blanks. There is just a small number of manufacturers that make them. Most of the HP's I bought a few years ago are totally useless now. TDK totally sucks now too. Luckily I got a great deal on Taiyo Yudens on Ebay a while back. Most audio now I just archive in FLAC format on DVDs making 2 of each before deleting from my computer. The best stuff I will actually listen to again for sure and masters are put on TY's and newer masters are also backed up in FLAC on DVD, eventually all masters will be spread across multiple formats, just in case.

If you care about a long life span of the discs,gold discs are the way to go.Don't be fooled by cheap discs with only a gold colored top label. This was discussed on an earlier thread : [www.iorr.org]
