POST: Chuck Berry, Rome 1st May 2007

Italian radio broadcast. 192 Kbps mp3 (one big file)
From today's huge concert in Rome.
Unfortunately the radio broadcast was incomplete (12 minutes), I could watch the rest of his performance on the television (5 minutes).
btw, don't expect too much from this old legend's performance...

This is one of the most interesting post for me. I haven't heard any Chuck Berry live material since Hail, Hail with Keef. Wonder if the whole concert was recorded?

Well, the whole concert lasted for 16-17 minutes and it was all broadcasted live by the italian television, unfortunately I've only recorded the 12 minutes from the radio.
In any case, during those 'missed' minutes he was a bit pathetic: while the host of the show was trying to interview him, he started yelling random titles of his songs, then he started to play a couple of guitar licks completely out of tune, driving his backing band crazy. During the concert he also seemed to complain with the piano player and he also showed him with one hand how to play properly...

That sounds like Chuck. It may very well be a routine. When I saw him last yaer in Bonn he fired the drummer on stage. Then someone jumped up ther and did the last few songs with him. Thank you for your effort, I'll treasure this one.

I saw some parts on youtube, and you have to realise the soundquality is bad as hell also on the radio broadcast, but listen around 5 minutes and from minute 7 pretty rockin groove! The groove is always good, also these days, I've seen chuck a few times and if he is part op a bigger programme, then he will sometimes take is too easy and play lazy (is what I've heard) but everytime it's a Chuck Berry concert where all the people come to see HIM, he will still really let it ROCK! I've whitnessed a few times!
