As tears go by STEREO?
Posted by: alexander paul ()
Date: September 28, 2006 12:03

Hi,
I am looking for the stereoversion of As tears go by (studio recording 1965) as on the NEW release of Necrophilia (Degga SSM 120 367), see Dieter Hoffmann's Schwarzbuch Nov. 2005). I already have an older release of Necrophilia. Chris Menicou states that As tears go by on Could you walk on water is a monoversion.
Any help is welcome.
Alex, Amsterdam ([email protected])

Thanks for the track SonicBBQ. I for one was unaware this stereo version was available. While 128kbps is ok.. Is it the best quality you can post?
A copy at 192kbps or higher would be welcome.

Hi. To answer Alexander Paul, I'm not sure the source for it. To answer Rumple, this is the best I have...only have the mp3 not on cd.

I've long considered this a fake & I still do.

On the original mono version there is only one 12 string guitar, where does the other one come from? They've put the original in one channel, spliced bits of the original into the other channel, & then added a middle instrumental of their own construction which sounds way too synthetic for what was available at the time.

There, that's my opinion. (At my age my opinion is not at all humble)

I could be "sway"ed to agree with Vox...I've always thought this "version" pretty much sucked...way too "busy"

Are there any other STEREO versions of songs that have only been released in mono?

A fake? - It does sound 'busy' right enough - more bootlegger tampering perhaps!!

Exactement! I second Vox's opinion. There ain't no original version of ATGB in stereo existing so where should this come from? From the wishful thinking mind of some technically talented bootleggers, who put the mono version in the left channel and some overblown other shit in the right channel.

Other fake: Angel Child. Apparently from Goat's Head Soup. Well it sounds a bit like it and the voice of the singer is Jagger-ish, but the more annoying it is...

Sorry to dig up old wounds...

Has anyone ever found more information on this version? I thought it to be a fake, but Nico is still listing it:

651026A 26th October: London, IBC Studios. Producer: Andrew Oldham. Sound engineer: Glyn Johns.
- As Tears Go By III (MJ/KR/Andrew Oldham) -with string-quartet, arranged by Mike Leander; 'Necrophilia'-version, with different middle part

I could swear that As Tears Go By was in True Stereo on the German Hot Rocks released in the 80s. As Well as PLay With Fire that sounds great...ABKCO is so silly...

Unfortunately no. All versions of As Tears Go By were mono until this track appeared on a boot. It is not the same version in stereo.

While e.g. 'Satisfaction', 'Get Off Of My Cloud' and 'Play With Fire' are in Stereo -- 'As Tears Go By' is in Mono on this Hot Rocks CD.

The 2002 US-re-release of 'Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)' contains Stereo mixes of 'Satisfaction', 'Time Is On My Side', 'It's All Over Now' and 'Heart of Stone' - but not of 'As Tears Go By' which is still Mono there.

It's only 27 seconds long and it sounds terrible via Headphones. Sounds like 'electronically reprocessed', 'pseudo stereo' or similar .... sad smiley

Thanks, but no. This is just the ERPS version.

As I remember, this version is, as stated by Nico, different (see vox12string's explanation above - it may use parts of the "Symphonic Stones" version). I'll re-post when I have a chance. Someone seemed to go through a lot of work to make this version (assuming its a fake). If it's real, they did not do it justice! Either way, it is interesting.

All I was wondering if it was ever proven to be a fake? Since Nico still lists it, I guess it has not been proven yet.

Yep that's it. Thanks for finding it.

Fake or legit outtake?

My opinion is the former.

I've never heard this stereo version before. I assume it was real but you have me wondering if it's fake. It's cool but so different than what I'm used to.
