Re: Rocks Off movie 1981

Rocks off did exist, I have watched it in fact. If I remember well, it included the same songs and performances as "Lets spend the night together, plus "when the whip comes down" from Sun Devil Stadium. Another difference is the playing speed: While the "lets spend....original video release ran too fast thus making all the songs sound half a tone higher, the copy I watched of Rocks off ran at the correct speed. Good luck on your search!

playing speed:
movies show 24 frames/second
videos show 25 frames/second
videos of a movie are faster than the movie and the tone of a video of a movie is higher! videos are earlier over...
Congratulations, florinda, that you can hear that little difference, i can't - but i would like to be able to hear that!
Rocks Off, i think, is the european version of the Hal Ashby-movie "Let's spend the night together" plus "When The Whip Comes Down". I've seen it in a cinema 1982/3 and on tv 1989 (RTL in Germany).

Hello Cinema, What an interesting data. I did not know the difference was a technical reason. I think this is not the problem here because I have gimme shelter in video format and this does not happen. I think that the difference in tone, a semitone in fact, is on purpose. It also happens on some audience concerts up to 1975 or so, as some tape recorders used to run faster at that timethen. So when you played the tape later on a regular tape deck, it sounded slow by half a tone again. For example, Birmingham 73 on oh boy, it is slow by a semitone. I have had to correct many concerts to make them sound as they were really played by the band.
