For Cafaro and any other R.E.M. fans here.

This is basically the R.E.M. equivalent of Brussels '73. It's a King Biscuit recording and the band's performace is stellar - one of, if not the best R.E.M. shows ever. From the "Little America" tour, supporting Reckoning, their second LP.

My personal faves are the Gardening At Night/9-9/Windout block, the killer cover of So You Wanna Be A Rock N' Roll Star, and the tremendous (and unreleased) Skank.

In short, this is R.E.M. when they were a bunch of indie-label, beer-fueled speed freaks and long before Michael Stipe crawled up his own ass.

Probably my favorite live recording by any band not named the Stones - enjoy!

Excellent! Thanks JuanTCB! I've always been a big fan of early REM.

Here's an audience recording of them doing a sloppy "Paint It Black". Sorry, but I don't know when or where its from:

Thank you Juan! I agree: one of the great live bands! Saw them on their 3rd tour, and again on their last two tours. Like the Stones, they do not play with the same sort of energy, and passion as they did in their prime (this recording is REM near their prime).

Unlike the Stones, I have yet to see a show where REM has mailed it in. They still do great, honest live shows (even though the studio stuff is average).

Thanks for the boot!

Glad you guys are enjoying it - I've got a couple of others that I'll try to get up over the next few days.

Buffalo - have you seen them post-Berry? I kind of lost interest after Bill left the band - got the first couple of albums without him and they just bored me. Am I missing something?

Lurker -

They've never done Sidewinder live, believe it or not.

Here's Paint It, Black from the German TV show Rockpalast, Oct. '85, instead:
