I really like the Tokyo verison 1990, on Cold Steel Blue....

"It's Good To Be Here, It's Good To Be Anywhere"-Keith Richards

"Halloween Is Every Night Of My Life"-Keith Richards

"I Got The Sticky Fingers, For Some Girls"

Atlantic City 1989 and Twickenham 2003 are the best I've heard.

St. Louis '97 is defenitly my favorite followed by the version of Rock N' Roll Circus, Rio '06 and Stockholm '03. I used to listen to the Love You live version a lot but it's been a long time since I last did.

MSG 69 and Altamont 69, then LA 75.
But Tokyo 1990 is good too, especially the Keith-solo.

I always had a fondness for the remastered version issued by Virgin Records on the Flashpoint CD until I heard the uncut / unedited version on Cold Steel Blue (Toyko, February 26, 1990) posted here by TatteredTonque (Thank you again TT).

Boy, did they do a hatchet job on the Flashpoint version. They cut 2 minutes from the running time and overdubbed the song to death.

Hey, it's my song so I never get tired of hearing the many takes on the classic.

Hey Erik:

I was kind of hoping the prize was a hot date with the chick, riding the R.S. tongue on the LIVE LICKS CD explicit cover. Lick 'em good !

Speaking of Sympathy, anybody noticed how badly it is routinely played on this tour? I have seen 4 shows live, 2 on dvd, heard a few boots and in all of them the song is played very sluggishly. Keith seems to take time off during this song. Mick invariably forgets the "I watched with glee..." stanza. It is really too bad, because it is one of my favorites. Wish they would play it after "2000 Light Years" like they did in the Steel Wheels tour. That version - with the piano transition playing notes from "She's A Rainbow" - gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it.

Raoul,

I agree, I have been to ten shows this tour and Not once was I satisfied with sympathy. The piano seems to be lacking at the begining also the sound seems to be Machine manfactured at the begining. At least to my ears.

Jagger is not forgetting that stanza,it is being left out on purpose. It has been that way since '02 & I think on the '89/'90 tour as well. The version from Oakland November 19,1997 is among the best modern era versions but,the sound quality of that recording is not the best.

Why would they leave it out on purpose? Seems to me that especially after 9/11 "I watched with glee while your kings and queens faught for ten decades for the gods they made" is as timely a verse as they have in their repertoire...

I don't know but, they used those lines in every version from the time the song was brought back in October 1994 up until 1999 then he hasn't used them since then.

LYL 1975 version has the best guitars overlapping.
All from 1989 were great as well.
Not so menacing anymore, a little too much Chuck for my taste.

LYL 1975 version is great. Rock & Roll Circus is also great and true to the studio version.

But 1989 version i great as well.
