Yesterday, by accident, I discovered the UHD Atmos versions of the new tracks on the Amazon Musicstreaming app.
For someone who had really been struggling to get any satisfaction at all from the standard stereo mixes, it was nothing less than a revelation. One could finally hear the bass — warm and absorbing the sharper tones of the guitars and the drum cymbals. Mick’s singing was no longer aggressively upfront, but instead placed tastefully within the mix alongside the other instruments. So not all hope is lost.
Still, it puzzles me why they don’t release only good-sounding music. It’s amazing and exciting that The Rolling Stones are treating us to the gift of a new album, but please don’t spoil it by releasing unbearable mixes.
I’m looking forward to the single release on vinyl and hoping for a sound similar to the above-mentioned UHD Atmos mixes. I’m even considering purchasing the cassette, in the hope of a more pleasant and less hurtful listening experience. Fingers crossed.
