POST: 1978 American Tour series Vol 13 - 04/07/78 - BUFFALO

THE ROLLING STONES

10th June - 26th July 1978
North American Tour.

In this series we concentrate on audience recordings, leaving out the rehearsals, and of course the official recordings. KBFH-recordings will only be used for merges or matrix recordings.

Thanks to the people who recorded and shared these shows and also to my accomplices nzb and BlueTurns2Grey who gave me the benefit of their advice and support.
BlueTurns2Grey will be posting his video reworks simultaneously.

Line-up: MJ (voc, gtr, p)/KR (gtr, voc)/RW (gtr, pedal steel)/BW (bass)/CW (dr)/STU (p)/Ian McLagan (p, org, bvoc)
Volume 13
4th July 1978
(BUFFALO)

4th July 1978: Buffalo, New York, Rich Stadium

For this show I found 3 sources.
Source #1:
- “Long Summer ‘78“ (AR 92): coming from a vinyl rip I did years ago. Only 5 tracks come from the Buffalo show. I used it as speed reference.
- “Satisfaction Guaranteed”come from a vinyl rip uploaded by Wiredallnight at IORR. It contains 2 more tracks from the Buffalo show. It must be decelerated by -1,6%.
Source #2:
- “Satisfaction Guaranteed” (VGP 378) with an average sound, must be decelerated by -0,24%.
- “nzb’s version” come from the same source but must be decelerated by -4%.
Source #3:
- “Buffalo July 04, 1978” (no label) has a poor sound and must be accelerated by +3% ( missing the 2 last tracks).

A version has already been released by Captain Acid (APCD #038).
This very good version come from a Falo mix using a YT source and was upgraded by Captain Acid: [iorr.org]
It can be downloaded from the StonesVault or with this link:

As a complement I propose here to present the source #1 which was not used in the APCD #38.
The 7 tracks are presented separately and in a merged version (using source #2 in the right channel).
As usual, all the recordings are de-clicked, the balance, the azimuth and the phase are improved.

Part I: source #1
01 - Let It Rock
02 - All Down The Line
03 - Star Star
04 - When The Whip Comes Down
05 - Tumbling Dice
06 - Brown Sugar
07 - Jumpin' Jack Flash

Part II : merged version
08 - introduction
from source #3 (missing from all other versions!)
09 - Let It Rock (merged)
10 - All Down The Line (merged)
11 - Star Star (merged)
12 - When The Whip Comes Down (merged)
13 - Tumbling Dice (merged)
14 - Brown Sugar (merged)
the first second comes from source #1
15 - Jumpin' Jack Flash (merged)
the last 4 seconds come from source #1

As usual all the infos are coming from Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database: [www.nzentgraf.de]

The sound in the stadium was muffled/muddy that day, weak PA and swirling wind. Even pretty close to the stage in the massive stadium in was flat/muddy and took a long time to improve. Even then it was not all that good. No idea what happened but it was an off day for the band or crew or both. Unless a soundboard emerges I don't think a decent sounding version is possible.
