Wow! Who’s been sitting on this treasure all these years?
Just before they stopped live performances for ever.

Thank you.

Is it just me or do they sound either under-rehearsed or simply not wanting to be there? I know some of it is the lousy sound available in 1966, but they just seem off. Harmonies, playing, etc. A bad night or totally sick of trying to perform in the environment of the time?

It was standard practice for them not to play correctly. That's really too bad for the sake of history. But they didn't know we would be listening 60 years later, and at the time they knew nobody could hear them over the screaming fans so why not have a laugh and goof around. I think the best live gigs we'll ever hear is the Hollywood Bowl, Washington DC 1964, Stockholm 1963 (bootleg) and maybe Shea if they ever release it. -edit just posted a link to Stockholm '63.

Judging from the Japanese footage this is how they played in 1966...They just weren't a real good live band I guess....

I have heard some great performances of the Beatles, live, from earlier tours. There are a couple of Australian shows from1964 that are tight and energetic that I love listening to. Was just wondering if they were more disjointed/disconnected from caring by 1966, or if it just got harder to perform with all the noise....or if burnout/disinterest set-in. Could not blame them whether it was technical with mid-60s sound limitations or burnout.
