It doesn't have to mean that these are professional taped live recordings, probably it's just an audience recording.

Yes, you both are right, how big is the chance that there's nothing on it?
They didn't check it, but they have written "Rolling Stones" on it?

somebody could have put the wrong tape in the boxes or somebody marked the tape to put the aside to record the Stones (but it never happened), etc.

Might be someone slowed down an Alvin and the Chipmunks tape to make it sound like Mick. Not unprecedented. Got burned myself that way once.

I too now have several cassette tapes that are marked Rolling Stones that I would like to auction…

What if these recordings are just some transfer of the official LPs? They do not have necessarily being from 1966 but someone could have recorded them then.
Isn't it peculiar that the vendor mentioned could not even give a hint as to the content? If it was really sensation (e.g. hitherto unknown official live recordings) he could have sold them for much more money.

Do you know if there's anything on them?

Listen, with Bernadette running the vacuum all day and the cassette deck known for eating tapes I haven't had a chance. That's pretty standard in the auction industry really...

Eggzactly! How sure can one be that the "contents were not checked"???
That sounds like another way of saying, "Nothing significat on here, so we're saying contents were not checked in hopes that someone will pay an absurd fee in hopes of finding some gems."
That's the same reason you don't buy an LP on ebay where the seller states "not played so unsure of quality" -- which is a guarantee the seller played it and it sounds like crap.
