POST : Charlie WATTS & Bill WYMAN coming together for benefit-concerts Vol 02c – 21st September 1983 (Benefit-concert for the Prince Of Wales Trust) LONDON (merged version)
Bill WYMAN and Charlie WATTS
Coming together
for A.R.M.S
(Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis)
Benefit-concerts
(20th September – 9th December 1983)
This series presents the shows in which Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts teamed up in 1983 to support a string of charity concerts (2 in London and 9 in the US). Our original intention was to present the A.R.M.S. shows (see below) but since the players (and the songs played) were almost the same for the charity gala organized for the Prince Of Wales Trust on September 21 we decided to include it in this series.
In 1983, Ronnie Lane’s girlfriend Boo Oldfield contacted Glyn Johns with a view to organizing a concert to help fund Action for Research into Multiple Sclerosis. Johns was already arranging Clapton's Command Performance for Prince Charles so they decided to book the Royal Albert Hall for a further two nights and host a benefit concert. The first ARMS Charity Concerts (and initially planned to be the only) event took place at the Royal Albert Hall on September 20, 1983, with subsequent dates occurring in the United States, with slightly different lineups of musicians.
Thanks to those who recorded and shared their recordings, to BT2G for his suggestions and the available video versions he will add to complement this series and to nzb for his irreplaceable help.

For this show we have several versions but they’re actually coming from only two different sources.
The first one (#1) can be found in particular in the 2nd part (CD n°3 and 4) of the box set ‘Three Yardbirds In The Hall’ (Beano Records B-023).
The 2nd one is more common and can be found on ‘Royal Albert Hall - ARMS Concert 21’ (CR 2813-2) where the sound is brickwalled or on ‘Prince’s Trust Rock Gala‘ (no label), but the most interesting one comes from the rip of a vinyl made and posted by DocDondy on Dime that had to be decelerated by -1,8%.
Both recordings are almost complete.
For this project we plan to upload 3 versions (only with lossless material):
- Vol 02a corresponding to the first source
- Vol 02b corresponding to the second source
- Vol 02c is a 'Frankenstein version': the most complete recording as a merging of the 2 circulating versions.

Vol 02c:
This version contains merges from the two sources (1st source on the left and 2nd source on the right).
In both recordings there are some cuts so they have been combined in order to obtain the most complete recording.
The 2 recordings have been previously reworked (see versions 2a and 2b) and synchronized using small sequences of about 30 seconds.
