POST: 1976-08-21 Knebworth, my optimized complete version

This is not from a commercial bootleg release.
I tried to make it better than VGP-146 and all the other.
For the soundboard I used a vinyl rip from Stonesvault which sounds better than VGP-146
The mono soundboard tracks (from video) I took from a silver DVD "Knebworth 1976", no label, digipak
The audience tracks I took from The "Midnight Ramblers In The Midnight Hour", Tarantura 2 CD. This 2 CD set is lossy or at least frequency limited to about 12 kHz. Those who get a heart attack when they hear the word "lossy" - don't download this!
There are about 5 or so different audience tapes circulating. I found that this one is the best sounding. But it is very subjective, others may think differently.

I made it as complete as possible with smooth transitions between the tracks.

01 (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
02 Ain't Too Proud To Beg
03 If You Can't Rock Me-Get Off Of My Cloud
04 Hand Of Fate
05 Around And Around
06 Little Red Rooster
07 Stray Cat Blues
08 Hey Negrita
09 Hot Stuff
10 Fool To Cry
11 Star Star
12 Let's Spend The Night Together
13 You Gotta Move
14 You Can't Always Get What You Want
15 Dead Flowers
16 Route 66
17 Wild Horses
18 Honky Tonk Women + Country Honk Theme
19 Tumbling Dice
20 Happy
21 Nothing From Nothing
22 Outa Space
23 Midnight Rambler
24 It's Only Rock 'n Roll
25 Brown Sugar
26 Rip This Joint
27 Jumpin' Jack Flash
28 Street Fighting Man

Thanks for the compilation and your time to gather it together!

I didn't know that the Tarantura CDS is lossy or frequency limited.
According to what I read, its also a mix of different audience and soundboard sources to make a complete venue. ( 2 hours 27 minutes 43 seconds.)

I have downloaded the Tarantura release somewhere here when it was posted shortly after the release. My files have that frequency cut. It is not soundboard, only audience. I always thougt it was a new audience source but I haven't checked it in detail, so you could be right that various sources were used.

You are correct, the Tarantura release is mostly audience source, there is a very short soundboard part.

Edit 2 - The cut from the end of Hot Stuff to the beginning of Fool To Cry was supplemented with a 58-second soundboard source (there is no audience recording that contains this section).

I found the release notes here:

"A nearly complete show reconstructed from various audience sources.

The majority of this title uses master tapes from previously unreleased audience sources."

Indeed, thanks for that helpful link, I did not know it.

Thanks for this work. A couple of years ago Captain Acid worked on Knebworth too.

[iorr.org]

I appreciated that one. Can we compare these two edits? Is this one 'better' than all the rest, including After Midnight Knebworth 1976 by Captain Acid?

Alex.

By the way...

Here are the different audience sources from the Knebworth show.
All are different to each other. All links from Stonesvault.

1 LP Route '76 Low Tide and Fair Hits [www.filefactory.com] [www.filefactory.com] (This is by far the worst source!)
2 LP Stones Tour Mop Up [www.filefactory.com]
2 LP Stoned Stones [www.filefactory.com] (3 sides, side 4 = other tracks)
2 CD The Complete Knebworth (Shaved Disc TSD 020-021) [www.filefactory.com]
2 CD The Midnight Ramblers In The Midnight Hour (Tarantura TCDRS-50 1-2) [www.filefactory.com]

Soundboard:
stereo:
2 LP Hot August Night [www.filefactory.com]
mono from video:
1 CD Best of Knebworth Fair (Midnight Beat) [www.filefactory.com]

Thanks for the praise wiredallnight. I made this recording and it had been one hell of a long day - scorching temperatures during the day, freezing cold at night and lots of ahem, refreshments along the way so it was a miracle I managed to stay awake to record the show. I positioned myself slightly to the right and it made for a very unusual, Keith heavy sound which you can clearly hear in the recording. There are some awful feedback screeches at the start of the show but these eventually diminish as the sound guys get their act together.
I know people say the Stones were sloppy that night but hey, I'd rather have Stones' sloppy than pretty much any other act in the world. I'm looking forward to hearing your version. SD
