In August of the same year, they released "Tattoo You" (No. 2 in the UK, No. 1 in the US), and began the US-only "Tattoo You Tour" on September 25th. During this tour, a concert in Landover, Maryland on December 8th of the same year was recorded and broadcast as a radio program for promotion, and this album is a live album from the broadcast.
This tour, which is said to be the most fulfilling in the Rolling Stones' touring history, recorded astonishing sales in tour sales, thanks in part to the big hit of the album.
