POST: Mick Taylor & Mayall's BB (1967-69) Vol 04 – 09 & 10/02/68 – SAN FRANCISCO (Fillmore)
Posted by: StonyRoad ()

Mick Taylor before the Stones with
JOHN MAYALL’S BLUESBREAKERS
(1967-1969)
This series is dedicated to the late great John Mayall (29/10/1933 Macclesfield, Cheshire, England – 22/07/2024 Los Angeles, CA) who can be considered as one of the pillars of the UK blues as a musician, author and talent scout. In this series we present recordings from Mick Taylor's first two years with him, before he left for the Rolling Stones (although he later returned a couple of times to John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, notably in 1982-1984 and in 2004)!
Thanks to those who recorded and shared their recordings, to nzb for his irreplaceable help, to BT2G for inspiration.
Reviews of many Mick Taylor concerts can be found at GimmeMT.com.

Volume 04:
9th & 10th February 1968
SAN FRANCISCO
(The Fillmore Auditorium)

Line-up: MT (gtr)/John Mayall (voc, org, p, harm, gtr)/Keith Tillman (bass)/Keef Hartley (dr)/Chris Mercer (tsax)/Dick Heckstall-Smith (bsax)

Part I: 9th February 1968: San Francisco, California, The Fillmore Auditorium.
01 - Dust My Blues
02 - So Many Roads
03 - I Can't Sleep
04 - My Own Fault
05 - Soul Of A Short Fat Man
Note: A soundboard recording was made by Bill Graham. It was broadcast in 2006 on Wolfgang's Vault-internet radio.
Here I slightly adjusted the phase, declicked the recording and reworked the transitions by deleting the gaps between the tracks.

Part II: 10th February: San Francisco, California, The Fillmore Auditorium
06 - improvisation 1: "Looking At Me"
07 - improvisation 2: "The Good Time Was So Good"
08 - Soul Of A Short Fat Man (incl. drum solo)
09 - band introduction

Note: Soundboard recording, sold in 2014 on Wolfgang's Vault.
Another excellent recording, but slightly saturated. I only reworked the transitions between the tracks and deleted the gaps between them.

Thanks a lot for this series from Mayall/Taylor era;
must have been a lot of work!

From these February 1968 shows I'm still looking for "Tell My Baby":

Nobody has this?

This song appears in the 1969 Berlin show (see the official Box CD #33)
but we miss the 1968 version.

Thanks for clarifying.

Though I thought the rule here is that, so long as the official source is not used, an unofficial source for the same show is OK? For example, there are numerous RS shows posted here that have official releases (Hyde Park 1969, LA 1975, etc. (There is a different rule for The Traders Den, where it used to be that no source can be used for a show if the show is officially released.)
Do I misunderstand the rule for iorr?

Unfortunately, for some of the "official releases", Mayall edited the tracks so material is lost. So, I'd prefer to hear your versions winking smiley

For Windsor, Gothenburg and Bremen , Mayall's team used the only recording that exist: they cannot be used here. Bremen and Berlin are incomplete and I will post,in a complementary volume, the songs that don't appears in the official box.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify and explain.

And, of course, thank you, thank you, thank you for all these releases and all your great work!
