POST: 1969.12.03/04 "Brown Sugar" & "Wild Horses" (Early takes) - (new: Brown Sugar take 08 - 25/11/24)
Early versions from
BROWN SUGAR
&
WILD HORSES
3rd&4th December1969: Florence, Alabama, Muscle Shoals Sound Studios.
These early versions were uploaded on YouTube by Ronald Starcjewski.
01- "Brown Sugar" (early version) the 1st and 2nd verses are inverted and the lyrics are slightly different.
You will find 2 versions. In the 2nd "more reworked" I added the first 2 notes of the intro and I reworked the end a little. As I was not sure that you would appreciate this DIY I added the "slightly reworked" version.
02 & 03 - "Wild Horses" (early version with ‘the things you asked for’)
You will find here 2 versions
02 – this is a partial recording with the piano stronger in the mix.
03 – this version was first filtered by BT2G.
Reason of the noises in the background: “I recorded it using my cell phone from a cassette playback that I was not supposed to record”
As usual all the infos are coming from Nico Zentgraf's Rolling Stones Complete Works Database: [

On 17 October, Ronald Starcjewski posted a new excerpt from the sessions of Brown Sugar on 04.12.69… It seems to be a kind of monthly rendezvous.
This new excerpt is located at the end of the sessions and is, although very short, interesting to discover another step in the maturation of this extraordinary song.
We can hear that they added percussion in the intro and MJ's "yo!" on that day.
Here you will find the audio rip from the original upload and my slightly reworked version
Thanks to nzb who pointed me at this new upload.

Brown Sugar take 8 :
Posted on 25th November 2024 by Ronald Starcjewski: a big thanks to him (and to BT2G who point me as this new post)
Here Ronald Starcjewski comments:
….
From Muscle Shoals 12/3/69. They took a short break while Keith and Mick played around with the arrangement, but only made a couple of small changes. This was the next take after the break. There are two sources for the recordings at Muscle Shoals. Stanley Booth, using a portable tape recorder, made recordings all three nights. The Maysles were only there the final night, but were not allowed to film the actual recording or overdubbing of the songs; just the playback after. Stanley was allowed to record while the Stones were actually recording, not just the playbacks. The actual music played in the film Gimme Shelter from the playbacks was overdubbed with more polished versions. However, the original audio, including the chatter between playbacks, still exists. There are almost two hours of it. This includes the hotel footage while they were listening to rough mixes. The person who had the collection of Booth recordings is no longer with us. I have no idea if they even still exist. Over the course of a couple years, I was invited to visit the collector and was able to hear the Booth recordings. I made very detailed notes while listening to those tapes. I estimate that the collector had at least four or five hours recorded on the tapes. The recordings I posted were made using my mobile, during a couple different visits, while the collector went out for a smoke. The recordings posted here were trimmed from longer recordings. I was sworn to secrecy, but when I learned of the collector’s passing last summer I made the decision to put these up.
