Bob Dylan - Night Of The Hurricane 1975_AcidProject 080
VERSION 2
Madison Square Garden, New York
December 8, 1975
Soundboard recording
I believe the source for this remaster is LB-7995, taken from wolfgang's vault.

Hi Dylan gang,

I wanted to do this one for a long time, i was not happy with any version so far.

Since i have shared "Version 1" i have received a better source files from "unwantedman". This one did not need patching from audience recordings, all tracks were complete and soundboard, and the sound was cleaner. So for this "Version 2" all tracks are from "unwantedman" source.

Origin of those files was lossy, but I worked on those with great tool, "Spectral Recovery" - iZotope RX 10, so i am sure most people won`t notice it`s origin was lossy.
Even if you check those files with some software that checks if it`s lossy, it will show as lossless.

All files were phase & level corrected and i did new EQ. I never use noize reduction or limiter. I hate brickwalled mastering and like music to have dynamics.

The noise present on the last track on disc 4 is present on all versions i have heard. I beleive it was cused by too many people at the stage, and some of the cables must have suffered. There was not much that could be done without harming the music, so i left it as it is.

Enjoy

Sorry Captain, as great as your work on this (and every other) recording is, and as great as the show is, you (and unwantedman?) are mistaken about one thing: there is, indeed, an audience recording patched in to the end of the show.

At the 1:12 mark of Track 06 on Disc 04, One More Cup Of Coffee, there is a distinct change in the sound. Everything is less immediate, especially the drums which you can now hear the arena echo on. Additionally, between songs you can hear more immediate audience clapping and commentary which is tell tale of an audience recording.

Granted, it's an EXCELLENT audience recording, and the change is easily missed, but it does not have the dynamic sound of the SB on all instruments from that point on. Compare the acoustic introductions to Hurricane and Just Like A Woman - not to mention the echo on Dylan's vocals at the beginning of the latter.

I haven't listened closely enough to the prior discs to hear if there are similar patches elsewhere. My guess is the original vault recording simply runs out, or was lost/damaged. Or maybe, as you allude to, some of the channels dropped/burned out at this late portion of the show. I don't know at what point in circulation this patch of the ending took place. Those Wolfgang shows are sometimes suspect of being patched with other SB pieces from other shows. But not sure if the website had this patch included or not.

J
