POST: THE NEW BARBARIANS - Vol 19c - 11 August 1979 - KNEBWORTH (Commemorative-set version)
THE NEW BARBARIANS :
Early April - 11th August 1979
This series is dedicated to The New Barbarians who played two concerts in Canada, nineteen shows across the United States in April - May 1979 (and January 1980) and also supported Led Zeppelin at the Knebworth Festival 1979.
A big thank you to all the people who recorded these shows and who shared them and to my two accomplices nzb and Jaap (Stonesmuziekfan) who gave me the benefit of their versions of these shows and their advice and support ... and therefore without whom this project would not have been possible.

After finishing this series I was contacted by two generous collectors who offered to send me their recordings. As both of their sources turned out to be very interesting we decided to add them to this series: so there will be 4 (!) versions for this concert... which is even for our standards quite exceptional.
Here is the Tonstone-version, taken from:
“30th Anniversary of 1976 - Freddie Bannister commemorative box set - New Barbarians Knebworth 1979”
First the origin:
…
I bought a box set from the promoter Freddie Bannister in 2006 - it was a 30 year special box set limited to 200 copies. It contained CDs of all the bands that played at Knebworth on the 21st August 1976, with the option to swap one CD for the New Barbarians set of 1979.
I chose to have the New Barbarians CD at the expense of 10cc’s.
The box also contained a program, 12 highly glossy photographs and a book called 'There Must Be A Better Way" plus posters.
…
Here’s what I did:
It’s a great sounding mono recording.
The recording is now declicked. I added a little more bass, I slightly amplified the sound and reworked the transitions between the tracks that now started with the songs. They were lots of diginoises in ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’. These faults are already on the original CD that came with the box set (see attached artwork in the ‘docs’ file: it quotes "Jumping Jack Flash This track jumps slightly in places"). I deleted these dozens of diginoises one by one with Audacity.
Note a fade in/out after ‘Honky Tonk Women” and that the first seconds of ‘Come To Realize’ are missing.
A big thanks to Tonstone!!!As usual all the infos are taken from The Complete Works Of The Rolling Stones database by Nico Zentgraf: [
