THE NEW BARBARIANS :

This series is dedicated to The New Barbarians who played two concerts in Canada, nineteen shows across the United States in April - May 1979 (and January 1980) and also supported Led Zeppelin at the Knebworth Festival 1979.
A big thank you to all the people who recorded these shows and who shared them and to my two accomplices nzb and Jaap (Stonesmuziekfan) who gave me the benefit of their versions of these shows and their advice and support ... and therefore without whom this project would not have been possible.

Note: For the Knebworth show Stanley Clarke was replaced on short notice by bassist Phil Chen, who had to learn all the songs in one day.

This show appears in several releases and with 3 different sources.
The most complete one is the recording provided by nzb.
Another one, not very good, can be found on the cd n°2 of ‘Barb Wired’ (EVSD 204).
The 3rd one is coming from GodzGolfBall (same as ‘The Last Time’ from Hot Lip) and has the best sound but much stage banter has been edited out and there’s lots of defaults in ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’.
We decided to keep two versions:
- Version #1: nzb’s version that can be presented here separately because it’s almost complete (only a 30 seconds gap in ‘Come To Realise’) and it’s not circulating widely.

- Version #2: a mix from nzb’s version (right channel) et GodzGolfBall’s version (‘GGB’) in the left channel.

For the mixing I had to work with little segments from 30 seconds to 1 minute because of slight speed variations in the tracks
The nzb’s version had to be declicked and amplified in the musical parts, phased, the transitions reworked and decelerated by -0,4% (to be in synch with the other one).

The beginnings of ‘Come To Realise’ and ‘Am I Grooving You’ are coming only from nzb’s source (they were missing in the GGB version).
Doing the mixes, I discovered that a 30 seconds segment was missing in nzb’s version in ‘Come To Realise’ (from 2’35 to 3’05) which is now completed in the mix with a GGB mono patch.
For ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ it was more difficult because on the GGB version some seconds from the beginning were lost and there were lots of gaps after 2’58 that made the task of a synchronization between both sources impossible. So, I had to do a shortened version, a real Frankenstein work, with a first reconnection of two segments at 9 seconds and another one at 3’32. This track is now 2 minutes shorter but that was the only solution.

But recently I received 2 new sources for the Knebworth concert… both very interesting.
So there will be certainly a Volume 19c and a Volume 19d.
