POST: THE NEW BARBARIANS - Vol 15 - 19 May 1979 - INGLEWOOD -

THE NEW BARBARIANS :

Early April - 11th August 1979
This series is dedicated to The New Barbarians who played two concerts in Canada, nineteen shows across the United States in April - May 1979 (and January 1980) and also supported Led Zeppelin at the Knebworth Festival 1979.
A big thank you to all the people who recorded these shows and who shared them and to my two accomplices nzb and Jaap (Stonesmuziekfan) who gave me the benefit of their versions of these shows and their advice and support ... and therefore without whom this project would not have been possible.

Line-up: RW (gtr, voc, harm, sax, pedal steel)/KR (gtr, voc, p)/Ian McLagan (p, org, bvoc)/Stanley Clarke (bass)/Bobby Keys (sax)/Joseph ‘Ziggy’ Modeliste (dr)

The TSP-CD 204 titled ’L.A. Forum’ turned out to be from Cincinnati!
So only two sources remained: one from nzb and another (better), recorded by Mike Millard and released by JEMS. This better source has already been reworked by Captain Acid (see APCD n°50).
Note that Captain Acid used only the tracks coming from the Inglewood show and not the 3 San Diego tracks that were in the JEMS release

So we decided to present the other source for the series, not as good but still interesting.
It was necessary to do lots of speed adjustments by using the official releases and the JEMS release for reference (this was not too easy to do because of the poor quality of this alternative recording).

Up to ‘I Can Feel The Fire’ the recording had to be accelerated by +1,6% to be in synch with the Mike Millard recording, but after that it had to be decelerated. On ‘Come To Realise’ by -3%, on ‘Am I Grooving You/Seven Days’ by -4%, on ‘Before They Make Me Run’ by -6% and on ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ by -8%.
In ‘Seven Days’ at 52’30 a 25 seconds segment is missing (tape flip?).
I equilibrated the channels and rephased them. I also amplified the sound and I reworked the transitions between the tracks that now start with the song.

Conclusion: This version has a poorer sound but it’s more complete (in particular for ‘Breathe On Me’) and it’s about 10 minutes longer than the Millard/JEMS-recording.

As usual all the infos are taken from The Complete Works Of The Rolling Stones database by Nico Zentgraf: [www.nzentgraf.de]
