POST: THE ROLLING STONES & THE NEW BARBARIANS (Vol 05) - 22 April 1979 (the evening shows) - OSHAWA

THE NEW BARBARIANS
&
THE ROLLING STONES

The Benefit FOR THE BLIND Concerts
22nd April 1979
OSHAWA
(Civic Auditorium)
Part 2: The evening shows

On April 22, 1979, The Rolling Stones and The New Barbarians, played two benefit concerts for the Canadian National Institute For The Blind (CNIcool smiley in Oshawa.
This shows can be included in the New Barbarians series as Volume 04 and 05 but because they also include the Stones we decided to present them separately.
The gigs were introduced through John Belushi and Cliff Lorimer. First the New Barbarians played their set, then MJ & KR played Prodigal Son and after that the Stones entered the stage (joined for the last song Jumpin' Jack Flash by the remaining New Barbarians).

CD1:
Part I°] Introduction: John BELUSHI & Cliff LORIMER
01 - Introduction

Part II°] Opening act: THE NEW BARBARIANS.
Line-up: RW (gtr, voc, harm, sax, pedal steel)/KR (gtr, voc, p)/Ian McLagan (p, org, bvoc)/Stanley Clarke (bass)/Bobby Keys (sax)/Joseph ‘Ziggy’ Modeliste (dr)
02 - Sweet Little Rock ‘n’ Roller
03 - F.U.C. Her
04 - Breathe On Me
05 - Infekshun
06 - I Can Feel The Fire
07 - Am I Grooving You
08 - Seven Days
09 - Before They Make Me Run
10 - outro (intermezzo)

CD2:
Part III°] Intermezzo: Mick JAGGER & Keith RICHARDS
01 - Prodigal Son

Part IV°] THE ROLLING STONES
Line-up: MJ (voc, gtr)/KR (gtr, voc)/RW (gtr, bvoc)/BW (bass)/CW (dr)/STU (p)/Ian McLagan (p, org)/Bobby Keys (sax)

02 - Let It Rock
03 - Respectable
04 - Star Star
05 - Beast Of Burden
06 - Just My Imagination
07 - When The Whip Comes Down
08 - Shattered
09 - Miss You
10 - Jumpin' Jack Flash
11 - outro

This shows appears to be on loads of releases. Soundwise my favourite is ‘Blind Date Revisited’ on Brex 062. The VGP 197 version is claimed to be speed corrected but I sensed it runs a little too slow and therefore was never satisfied with it. A version sent by nzb (with the short description ‘speed corrected sdb’ but no other info!) is IMHO in the correct speed. It shows that the Grex version has to be decelerated by -1,42%. (and the VGP version accelerated by +2,26).
nzb’s version contained also the complete intermezzo between the New Barbarians and ‘Prodigal Son’ and an outro missed on all the other versions.
So here I used the speed corrected Grex version and the intermezzo and outro coming from nzb’s version.

As usual all the infos are taken from The Complete Works Of The Rolling Stones database by Nico Zentgraf: [www.nzentgraf.de]

You mean DAC-197, not VGP. VGP-197 is Portland 98.

Unfortunately "Shattered" is incomplete (at about 3:25 about 35 seconds are missing).

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought there was only one show. So there were 2 shows afternoon and evening and this is a different how than what appears as the popular bootleg, Blind Date?

Blind Date (DAC-197) and this one contains the evening show (2nd show) in soundboard quality. The diference here is: I used the speed corrected Grex version and the intermezzo and outro coming from nzb’s version.

The afternoon show (1st show) is only available in audience quality.

By the way: The original unreworked soundboard recording of this show is still up and running on Dime:
[www.dimeadozen.org] (16/44)
and
[www.dimeadozen.org] (24/96)
There are some tape flip gaps (see description), another gap not indicated is in I Can Feel The Fire.

Venue: Civic Auditorium, Oshawa, ON
Date: April 22, 1979
Format: 16mm film, colour

This brief CBC News clip documents the Stones' free show for the CNIB in Oshawa circa April 1979, and features about half of '@#$%&'. I'm not sure if the performance is taken from the first or second shows of the day.
