So, I've been working on remastering all of these shows for 5 or 6 months now.
I heard a few of the shows from the 2021 USA tour, got sent the original files for one.
It kind of took awhile for me to get used to Charlie being gone and everything being a bit changed.
That bootleg of Hyde Park 1 kind of turned me around and suddenly I'm really liking everything about the band now.
Warts and all! You never really know what's going to come out of the guitar players next. Sometimes blasting out! lol
Mick's not beyond making a mistake or two himself on occasion. He's such a force of nature though.
And the rhythm section, yikes!! Daryl and Steve couldn't be any greater. I love Steve's drumming, he was the perfect
choice. And I've loved Daryl's playing since I first saw him with Miles many years ago.
So I'm really glad they pulled off these two tours. If they never toured again it would be a perfect way to go out.
All of these recordings are pretty great. With some variation in greatness.
Even the few that are lossy are still fine.
I've listened to all of these many times now on my Yamaha monitors and on some nice headphones that are quite revealing.
I believe I've got them all sounding as good as they can sound. Your mileage may vary.
The main thing I do is equalize things out. I want the same energy in both channels. I don't want it to lean one direction
or the other. I want the same amount of low end and the same amount of high end in both channels.
Throughout the complete frequency range I want things equal in the channels.
I do a lot of looking at the audio. In an FFT analysis of a whole show you can see where frequencies are missing and
where they are too hot.
Many of these new remasters are not as hot as the original share. Don't be fooled that louder is better.
Once or twice the remasters are louder than the original. I shoot for the loudest peeks to hit -.02 dB.
I could probably always go to digital zero but years ago equipment couldn't always handle digital zero.
So I've always stuck with -.02 dB. I don't use compression for anything.
And any peak limiting is to handle just a few peaks here and there, never to make everything as loud as possible.
When I bought my first computer in 2005 I also bought Pro Tools LE. My first computer was actually an underpowered dog of
an iMac. So I got another one in 2007. I used that until just a few years ago when it died.
I'm able to accomplish all I learned in Pro Tools on some more modest apps now.
All of this work was done in ocenaudio and Harrison Mixbus. Every once in awhile I will use Audacity to cross-fade a patch.
No fancy plugins. Just a few basic ones.
Thanks to all of the tapers and those who have shared these shows.
These are all CD ready. Most people probably don't burn cd's anymore but the tracks are all cut on sector boundaries and
will burn correctly. It took years for people to figure out the importance of sector boundaries and now everyone's forgetting
again. If it's not cut on sector boundaries when burning to cd it will create gaps between the tunes. Gaps bad. No gaps good.
Included with the shows are a series of before and after screen shots.
They do not show everything I do but they give a good indication of how the share has changed after my remastering.
Feel free to share these anywhere you want. The lossy ones aren't supposed to be on Dime.
These links will start to expire one week from now.
Thanks to everyone that shared this stuff. I got most of it from Dime and IORR.
Hopefully this all works the way it's supposed to. lol
