POST: Stevie Wonder Boston July 18, 1972 Opening For The Stones

so i asked in a email to erwin hoetjes (AKA stoons) the author the 72 tourbook about whether he knew of a recording of stevie wonders set during the 72 tour and to my amazment he said that there was a complete recording from boston but that he wasn't able to post a link for me at the moment

so i got his book and in the section for boston's bootlegs there's a curious note about a boot containing both stevies and the stones set (this tape came into circulation according to him around 2005) and this bootleg was released by a blogger called "rock rare collection fetish" the site for which he says no longer exists

so based on this information i looked around iorr to see if anyone had ever brought this up and couldn't find anything

in fact i couldn't find any reference to it online except this photo from a site about bob dylan and another about stevie wonder both without context for what it is

this image matches the one in erwin's book but without the back side pictured

so then i decided to just search for stevie's set by itself and found it amazingly on guitars 101

i'm assuming many of you like me had never heard anything about this recording existing before this

so here it is complete and in decent sound quality stevie wonder opening for the stones in boston in 1972

Thanks for this. I have always kinda wondered if they taped Stevie's sets with the mobile rig on those Texas and Philly shows. Boy would I love to hear that!

well since they recorded terry reid, bb king, and ike and tina in 69 for no apparent reason it seems likley

Stevie was going to have a side on the proposed live album.
They clearly had recorded him.

Dear Professor,

I found the recording from Stevie's set as described on page 249/250 of Tourbook '72. It's taped by Joe Maloney. The set consists of 12 songs.

Hope it works well.
The unreleased live album should contain only Uptight/Satisfaction medley, no other Stevie material.

Enjoy

Thanks for posting. What an amazing show it must have been to Stevie and his amazing band as he was putting out some of his best work, and close to exploding, and then the Stones we were doing their best work. Chills.
